Georgesheldon | Dreamstime 0 comments If you like to stock up on electronics through Amazon Canada, it might be time to take a look at the latest product recall issued by the government. On February 23, Health Canada announced the recall of Anker 535 Power Bank (PowerCore 20K), model A1366 due to a "fire hazard" that may occur if the product overheats. "The recalled product is a portable electronic charger compatible with a variety of electronic devices, including laptops, iPhones, and iPads," says the government agency. "This product was sold in Canada exclusively through Amazon.ca." > \u201c#RECALL: Do you have an Anker 535 power bank (PowerCore 20K) A1366? Find > out about the recall and what to do: https://t.co/NhwYSjZknf\u201d > — Health Canada and PHAC (@Health Canada and PHAC) 1677191410 The recall listing notes that only a "small number" of the affected items may pose the hazard, and as of February 13, 2023, no one in Canada had reported any cases of injuries or incidents. The affected power banks were sold between October 2022 to January 2023 and approximately 619 of them were sold in the country. "Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled Anker 535 Power Bank and contact Anker customer support for a refund," says the listing. As well, the Anker recall website says you can verify if your Anker battery is included in the recall by looking at the bottom of it and verifying if it says "535 Power Bank (PowerCore 20K) and Model: A1366." To receive further information, you can visit the Anker website, email them at support@anker.com or check out the Health Canada recall. In addition to this recall, on February 23 Health Canada also issued a consumer product recall for a Cosori Air Fryer, also due to a potential fire hazard. Stay safe, everyone! The TikToker going on a rant about seat swapping on a plane. jaykloss_ | TikTok There are many reasons why someone might want to swap airline seats on a flight, but one TikToker's story about a rejected deal has triggered plenty of opinions about people's right to say no. TikToker Jay Kloss went on a TikTok rant about his experience flying business class with Virgin Airlines, and he was not happy when another passenger refused his request to swap seats. Kloss explained that he was flying with his partner Zoe on her birthday, and when they got on the plane, they realized they were not seated next to each other. Although they were sitting in the same aisle, Kloss’ partner got the window seat, while he got the aisle seat on the opposite side of the plane, which meant there was someone else sitting on the aisle seat next to Zoe. The two of them decided it was fine, and they would ask the guy on the aisle seat next to Zoe to swap with Kloss, who also had basically the same aisle seat as him. “I politely asked him, ‘Hey, bro, would you mind moving so I can sit with my missus? It's her birthday,'” Kloss tells his TikTok viewers. “And he just looks at me and doesn't respond.” > @jaykloss_ > > AM I IN THE WRONG?! #wow #seatselection #fyp Kloss tried explaining that they have pretty much the same seat and asked if he would consider moving, but the guy refused. Eventually the other passenger said “No, I won’t, but I'll sit here,” referring to Zoe’s seat. “I wanted to slap him, but I didn't because I was on a plane, and I had to restrain myself,” Kloss recalled. Swapping seats with Zoe wasn’t an option because she needed her aisle seat because flying made her nauseous, according to Kloss. “There's literally no reason, it’s the same seat,” Kloss went on to say during his rant. “I'm like bro, really? Like, sure you can’t swap spaces, and he just doesn't respond to me, and I was like, ready to literally lay to this guy.” Eventually, they gave up, and Zoe took her seat. While there, she also tried asking him to swap seats and reiterated it was her birthday and she would like to sit with her partner. “And he's like, ‘Nah, no problem, just not moving.’ Like what the f*ck?” Kloss says. “Am I missing something because somebody explained to me what the hell is going on here? It's the same seat, just on a different side of an aisle.” Kloss and his partner later got their wish to sit together because the person sitting on the window seat next to Kloss agreed to swap seats with Zoe instead. However, he still couldn't get over why the first guy refused the offer. People in the TikTok comments were quick to offer their own takes on why Kloss' offer didn't work, and they argued that it was wrong for him to expect the other passenger to change seats. “People don’t have to say yes all the time it’s ok to say no,” read one top comment. Another user wrote: “Sorry you're wrong. You shoulda chosen seats together when you booked.” One comment read: “I’m so glad that guy didn’t move for you.” Even a flight attendant chimed in and wrote, “as a flight attendant, you need to sit in your allocated seats, it's for identification purposes in case of an emergency.” “The dude didn’t have to give up his seat, even if it was the nice thing to do,” commented another user. “Just gotta deal with people answering Y or N. Can’t expect it to be Y.” > @jaykloss_ > > We did it guys! #flight #part2 #fyp In a follow-up video, Kloss acknowledged people’s heated comments and explained that he learnt his lesson, and on his flight back he sat in the middle seat in economy without complaining about it or asking anyone to swap with him. At least that’s progress! A broken chocolate bar. Daria Bokovan | Dreamstime A recall has been issued for a specific brand of chocolate that is sold in Ontario. Health Canada posted the notice over the weekend, with a "do not consume" warning for various dark chocolate products made by Salento Organics because of a key ingredient that is missing from several different labels. "The affected products are being recalled from the marketplace because they contain milk which is not declared on the label," read the message from Health Canada. "The recalled products have been sold in Ontario." The agency warned of a potential "serious or life-threatening reaction" if anyone with an allergy or sensitivity to dairy consumed the affected products and advised they be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased. Here is a list of the Salento Organics products named in this recall: * Salento Organics Dark Chocolate Pineapple Bites * Salento Organics Dark Chocolate Pitaya (Dragon Fruit) Bites * Salento Organics Organic Banana Dark Chocolate Clusters * Salento Organics Organic Peanuts Dark Chocolate Dipped Recalled Salento Organics products.Health Canada Recall All four products come in 113g bags and have a best-before date of February 2024. Right: Nut butters at Bulk Barn. Janice Rodrigues | Narcity The opinions expressed in this article are the author's own and do not necessarily reflect the views of Narcity Media. As a newcomer to Canada, I've been pretty late in discovering Bulk Barn and its quirky assortment of goods. However, ever since visiting Bulk Barn in Canada for the first time earlier this year, I can honestly say I'm pretty hooked. As I learned the hard way, some products can actually end up being more expensive than regular grocery stores, especially if you want large quantities. However, there are so many specialty and niche products at Bulk Barn that I haven't seen anywhere else, and the fact that I can buy as little or as much as I want is a real game-changer. So, here are some staples that I'll always buy from Bulk Barn and why they just make so much sense for me. SPECIALTY FLOURS Flour options at Bulk Barn. Janice Rodrigues | Narcity Like many people, I discovered bread-baking during the pandemic, and now it's a favourite pastime of mine. While finding regular all-purpose flour isn't difficult (not now, anyway!), Bulk Barn totally won me over with its selection of other flours. From coconut flour to buckwheat flour and oat flour, the options are brilliant and I love how I can select the exact quantity I need for baking. Usually, I just add a small portion of different flours to regular all-purpose flour to bump up the health benefits. It's awesome that I can experiment with different flours from Bulk Barn without having to buy a whole huge sack that will sit in my kitchen taking up space. PEANUT BUTTER Grind-your-own peanut butter machines at Bulk Barn. Janice Rodrigues | Narcity The fact that you can grind your own peanut butter is worth the trek to Bulk Barn, in my opinion. I'm not sure why I love it so much, but it might be a touch of nostalgia as my local store in Dubai offered a similar service. It's so helpful that I can buy smaller quantities to use as and when I need it, and the fact that it's made in front of me means unnecessary preservatives are kept to a minimum. SUNFLOWER SEED BUTTER Sunflower seed butter at Bulk Barn. Janice Rodrigues | Narcity I'll admit that the nut butter section is another of my favourite things about Bulk Barn. Sure, freshly-ground peanut butter is great, but it doesn't stop there. There's also honey roasted peanut butter and almond butter. And, if you want to try something new, there's also cashew butter, hazelnut butter and sunflower seed butter in giant vats. I haven't been able to find such a variety in other stores and it's great because you can take a sample size to see if you like it before committing to an entire jar. I tried sunflower seed butter recently, and I honestly have no regrets. OATS Oats from Bulk Barn. Janice Rodrigues | Narcity Oats are a kitchen staple for me and I always like having a good stock of these for breakfasts. One of my favourite Bulk Barn finds is jumbo rolled oats, because I just love the larger flakes. The fact that a huge bag costs me just 0.35 cents (per 100 grams) is another reason to buy oats from Bulk Barn every time. Keep in mind the exact price may vary according to your location, though! SPICES Spices at Bulk Barn. Janice Rodrigues | Narcity One of my all-time favourite things about Bulk Barn has been picking up spices, so that I can experiment with different cuisines. From souvlaki seasoning to shawarma seasoning, the variety is completely mind-bending, and I've been picking up small varieties to (sorry about the pun) spice up my meal times. Bulk Barn even offers an "ultimate seasoning" that I haven't tried yet. But it's next on the list! HOT CHOCOLATE MIXES Peanut butter crunch hot chocolate from Bulk Barn. Janice Rodrigues | Narcity Hot chocolate deserves space on a kitchen shelf during Canadian winters, and I love trying new varieties. This is why it blows my mind that — not only do you get hot chocolate at Bulk Barn — there are also other hot chocolate flavours to try, from peanut butter crunch to salted caramel. If you want to try something new, you could also buy cocoa powder or chocolate chips from Bulk Barn to customize your drink. WOODEN TOOTHBRUSHES Bamboo toothbrushes. Janice Rodrigues | Narcity I started buying bamboo toothbrushes a few years ago when I realized that they didn't really make a big difference to me, but are probably so much better for the planet. After moving to Canada, I looked for them in physical stores everywhere, but didn't see them around too much (I could find them on Amazon, naturally, but only in large sets). However, I love that I can pick up singular bamboo toothbrushes from Bulk Barn. I'm not the only one who thinks Bulk Barn is a national treasure, either. A newcomer recently discovered Bulk Barn and described it as Canada's version of Disney World. That being said, you might want to watch out for the prices. Narcity did the math on which Bulk Barn products cost more than Dollarama items and there were some interesting insights.
