The 2022-23 SJU Senate President was also part of the Entrepreneur Scholars
(E-Scholars) Program through which he traveled to Bosnia and developed his own
business


CSB BIOCHEMISTRY MAJOR’S RESEARCH COULD HELP IN FIGHT AGAINST CANCER

Jocie Larson, also a member of the Bennie swim team, has been studying the p300
protein’s HAT (histone acetyltransferase) domain – specifically looking for
certain drugs that might be able to bind to it and prevent its role in the
expression of certain types of blood cancer


SUMMER RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES ABOUND IN ARBORETUM AT CSB+SJU

Environmental studies and economics major James Siems studied blooming patterns
of wildflowers and breeding calls of frogs and toads amid over 3,000 acres of
prairie, woods and lakes


A STANDOUT ATHLETE, A STANDOUT STUDENT

Fiona Smith has won two national titles as a distance runner at CSB, while also
excelling in a variety of research projects

Last year, Nick McGrane '24 won the NATAS College-Video Essay award for his film
about a Johnnie alum "For the Sake of a Single Poem with George Maurer". Nick's
film has now been submitted to another student production award, through the
Broadcast Education Association (BEA). There are over 300 participating schools
with submissions. Extending The Link's documentary "Born, Bred, Ga Dead" that
shares stories of multiple Bahamians and their encounters with climate change
was also submitted for the BEA awards as well!

the Sugar Bowl as a member of the Allstate American Football Coaches Association
(AFCA) Good Works Team! This award recognizes a select group of college football

CSB DANCE TEAM READY FOR NATIONALS

 * January 12, 2023

Under new head coach Kate Dempsey, the team is ready to compete at this
weekend's Universal Dance Association (UDA) National College Championships at
Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.


REV. DOUGLAS MULLIN ELECTED AS 11TH ABBOT OF SAINT JOHN'S ABBEY

 * January 9, 2024

Mullin, who was ordained in 2007, was chosen on the first vote to replace
retiring Abbot John Klassen.


PROFESSOR OF HISTORY AND AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDIES AT UNIVERSITY OF IOWA TO
KEYNOTE BLACK HISTORY MONTH ON FEB. 20 AT CSB AND SJU

 * January 5, 2023

Ashley Howard, whose research interests include the Black Midwest, social
movements and the global history of racial violence, will appear Feb. 20 at
CSB's Gorecki Conference and Dining Center. There will be a social hour starting
at 5 p.m., with the lecture to begin at 6 p.m.
