One of its SDGs is “Responsible Consumption and Production” (SDG 12). Among its different goals, there is one aimed at reducing (by half) food waste. This SDG is based on a growing and serious reality of increasing food waste. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), per year, “(...) 931 million tons of food end up in the garbage. As a result, all the resources that were used in food production, including water, land use, energy, human labour and capital, are also wasted.” This waste is shocking when we look at the reality of countries and contexts with difficulties in accessing food for subsistence, in many cases, basic. According to the same source, “811 million people go hungry and an additional 132 million suffer from the threats of food insecurity, especially with the Covid-19 pandemic.” Food waste, which is a contradiction in terms of the inequality of access to food in different contexts, causes a set of problems that, without resolution, will remain and will bring numerous constraints to environmental sustainability and the planet itself. Therefore, it is important to alert, raise awareness and empower populations to the serious problem that is food waste so that there can be a reversal or attenuation of the waste cycle and, with that, promote communities with greener and more sustainable standards and behaviours. It is in this sense that the idea of the project was born. Today’s young people are tomorrow’s adults and those who, more than anyone else, should be aware of the seriousness of risky behaviours with regard to food waste and the effects of these on their lives and on their planet. We therefore intend to promote work in close proximity with youth workers (YW) so that they are trained on the themes, exchange experiences and knowledge, bet on new intervention models based on non-formal methods and manage to work and empower young people in adoption. of more sustainable and more balanced behaviours. In addition, through joint action between the YW, we aim to improve and reinforce their personal, social and professional capacities and, consequently, to increase the innovative vector of the youth sector. OBJECTIVES The main objective, the social inclusion of young people in all its aspects, with particular emphasis on decision-making regarding social and environmental changes, as well as the needs, will be fulfilled through the specific objectives defined according to SMART logic: 01 Promote the development of essential competences among YWs for improvement, innovation and higher quality of youth work; 03 Promote non-formal learning opportunities to develop the competences and capacities of YWs and organizations 05 Promoting a network of YW specialized and active in the youth sector, environmental sustainability and social inclusion; 02 Promoting the exchange of knowledge and experience between peers to strengthen and specialize professionally and in the youth sector 04 Stimulate the production of quality results in the youth sector 02 Foster the growth of local, regional, national and European projects and initiatives to work with young people WHERE LISBON, PORTUGAL From March 11th to March 15th of 2024 PARTNERS Discover our consortium of partners.
