He also has extensive experience of theatre direction and venue management as well. Currently based in Elstree, Herts, Jack works as a Freelance Audio Creative across the UK and develops projects for both the UK and the USA. He has a keen interest in genre-based audio drama and digital podcast story-telling, specifically Science Fiction, Fantasy, Comedy and Horror. He has served as the Associate Director of LOST Theatre, directing notable in-house productions such as JERUSALEM and LET THE RIGHT ONE IN (2014 - 2016), as a Senior Producer and Kids Producer for The Wireless Theatre Company (2009-2014), before the company’s transformation into Wireless Theatre Ltd. There, he served as Senior Producer, primarily as the Co-Creator and Co-Producer of the THE SPRINGHEEL SAGA. He was Acting Head of Production during 2015 and during 2017-2018. During this period, he also produced MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS, ARABIAN NIGHTS, THE SOUL-BREAKER and THE DARKWATER BRIDE for AUDIBLE. He left Wireless Theatre Ltd in September 2018 to undertake a new role, working with DAGAZ MEDIA LLC to explore joint US-UK audio drama opportunities. Their first project together saw Jack co-script and co-create the pilot for a new dystopia series, ULTIMATE SOLUTION, with Fred Greenhalgh, which won him the opportunity to co-script EXPEDITIONARY FORCE: HOMEFRONT. Based on the award-nominated book series, Jack worked with its creator, NY Times Bestselling author CRAIG ALANSON and PODIUM PUBLISHING, to craft HOMEFRONT for released on AUDIBLE June 2019. Additionally, ULTIMATE SOLUTION was recorded and then - ironically - released second, in late July 2019 via Drabblecast. July 2019 also saw Jack have the good fortune to join BBC Studios, London, as a Producer, to work with the Radio Comedy Department and look at podcast opportunities for the UK’s leading radio production unit. It also fulfilled a life long dream to work with the BBC, and after assisting BBC Studios Business and BBC Studios Digital, completed work for the newly rebranded BBC Studios Audio department in March 2020. He also attended Podcast Movement Evolutions (February 2020, LA), Podfest Expo (March 2020, Orlando). Currently, he assists a variety of production companies, including Datura Films (LA), Spiteful Puppet (UK), and several other clients globally. 2020 will also see Jack oversee the UK production block of Ultimate Solution for Dagaz Media LLC, and develop new audio IP titles and several adaptations. After writing his debut play, FROZEN, Jack was approached by Mariele Runacre Temple to adapt the piece as an audio production. It became the first production commissioned by the fledgling Wireless Theatre Company, and remained its most popular download for six months. Afterwards, he was commissioned to write SEASONS specifically for Prunella Scales and Timothy West. Around this time, additional commissions began for 3DHorrorFi and the London Festival Fringe. Around 2007, Robert Valentine and Jack began developing a new audio series for Wireless Theatre. The concept was simple - a Victorian Detective hunting a notorious monster through the streets of London, which became the multi-award-winning THE SPRINGHEEL SAGA... Since then they have co-authored the complete SPRINGHEEL SAGA series, PHONOPHOBIA and the award-winning HG Well's-inspired DEAD LONDON and co-created the acclaimed RED MOON. It wasn’t long before the first opportunity was offered by Starburst Magazine. They were in the planning stages for a Starburst Convention in 2017, and wanted to know what Jack would do if given the opportunity. The initial idea was to do a Wireless Theatre/Dagaz Media co-production, performed in front of a live audience in Salford, UK. Unfortunately, due to financing issues early in the process, it wasn’t possible to undertake a US-UK co-production as planned, and the project was shelved. However, the idea of working together on an audio production stuck with Fred and Jack, and a few months later talked about the idea of independently creating a spec script for an audio pilot for fun between them. Creating unique workflow (certainly for independent audio drama) between the US and UK, they developed an outline and then a brief script, which they continued to refine in time. This became their first official collaboration, (although it ended up being released second after Expeditionary Force: Homefront). This story became known as: WHOLESALE SOLUTION: As humanity battles to outlive its own extinction, one man sets out on a desperate quest to save the woman he loves, only to find himself caught between wildly different, and deadly, worlds. SCRIPTING A “STAND-ALONE” SHOWCASE… (THAT WASN’T TO BE A STAND-ALONE SHOWCASE): This script initially became a stand-alone Sci-Fi/Horror, designed as a transatlantic audio drama showcase. However, after the script was completed, a chance to produce it was offered, as long as it was part of series. So Jack set to work drafting a new concept around the spec script, developing an initial six-part outline, which has since been expanded to ten episodes (including Wholesale Solution). The script and series option was passed on, but neither wanted to give up at the first rejection and in January 2019, Fred had the opportunity to record the pilot script in South Portland, Maine, US, while Jack began preparing post-production back in London, UK. Engaging Tom Maggs as Sound Designer, Fred provided Jack with the session files, who then crafted the dialogue edit. Post-production was taken in parallel with Expeditionary Force: Homefront, and continued for four weeks after Craig Alanson’s opus was delivered. ENTER DRABBLECAST: With the pilot produced, it needed an outlet, and Fred struck an agreement with Drabblecast for them to publish the pilot in July 2019 on their main website feed. Run by Norm Sherman, they are publishing "Strange Stories, By Strange Authors, for Strange Listeners," Drabblecast is a weekly audio fiction podcast featuring short and flash fictions from a variety of authors, writers and sources. Their singular focus is off-beat, funny, eclecticism in science fiction, fantasy, and horror. Wholesale Solution was released on July 21st 2019, both delighting, dizzying and horrifying audiences online alike. Now the questions remain… will Ultimate Solution go to a full series? The ambitious plan was to create a stand-alone drama which would work within the existing NY Times Best-Selling book range. From August to November, Jack worked with Richard Appleby on crafting an initial draft, which was sent to Craig. Craig then performed an author-led rewrite, as no-one knew his world better than him, which was returned to Jack for completion over Christmas. This meant substantial work on restructuring the work around a new storyline, producing nearly 200 pages over one week, all to make the script ready in time for the early January 2019 production schedule in Maine, US. January 2019, Jack was then flown to Boston and on to Maine to visit the recording sessions, undertaken by director William Dufris and Fredrick Greenhalgh under the Dagaz Media banner. If ever in doubt, Jack would refer questions to R.C. Bray, who had voiced the entire original book range for audio, and had been retained by the production team here as as Colonel Joe Bishop and, of course, Skippy the Magnificent. “If anyone knew Craig’s material the best outside of Craig, it would be R.C.. I would always ask him if the script I’d moulded felt right, to him. He simply said, “I honestly can’t tell what Craig wrote and what you wrote. EDITING: After recording, your reel will require post-production work, which may include the addition of spot FX, music or atmosphere. Each type of reel has its own demands in terms of post-production, so the turnaround period noted below will reflect this. NOTE: If you require a faster turnaround, this will involve a slightly higher price for the urgency of post-production. Please discuss this with Jack at the first opportunity to explore your options. DELIVERY: After post-production, you will receive a near-finished draft for you to hear. Any practical suggestions and thoughts can be offered at this stage, before a final polished edit is delivered to you. You will receive your reels in WAV (high quality) and MP3 (compressed quality) formats. These can then be added to your website(s), your Spotlight, Mandy and Agency profiles, as well as in a format suitable to be sent via email on request to casting directors. POST-DELIVERY SUPPORT: Once you have received your reel(s), then Jack will offer you additional follow-up advice and guidance when required, including insider-industry tips on how to sell and showcase your reel to. USAGE: The reels remain your copyright to use as you wish, provided they are not manipulated in any way which affects the quality of them adversely. Also, your reels may be used for promotional purposes on this website. You will also receive a PDF document on what to do with your reel once you receive it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT SPOTLIGHT MEMBERSHIP (Information correct as of December 2018): At the current time, Spotlight allow, under standard terms and conditions, for an actor to have up to 5 minutes of audio files/reels on your Spotlight Page. A BBC reel, which has to be 8 minutes long, is required by the BBC Casting Team to be on your Spotlight CV. To accommodate this difference, Spotlight will insist that an account holder pays an additional £9.99 per year on top of their annual fee, allowing that member an overall total of 15 minutes of audio material on their profile. Please note that you will need to contact them with regards to expanding your online audio allocation directly to accommodate a BBC reel. IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT MANDY MEMBERSHIP (information correct as of December 2018): At the current time, Mandy Actors allow free members to have ONE media file under 200Mb on your Mandy profile, which means an MP3 version of any of these reels, barring a BBC reel, should be suitable. If you upgrade Premium Membership on Mandy.com for actors at a monthly or annual rate, then you are allowed up to THIRTY media files, but all must be under 200Mb each. The same is also true of Mandy Voices UK. Please note that the BBC DO NOT accept BBC reels via Mandy Actors or Mandy Voices UK, but you may still wish to upload a BBC reel to your Mandy profile(s) regardless. IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT VOICE AGENGY/ACTOR AGENCY USE: Some agents will request the use of your voice reels on their website(s). If you have any specific requirements or information regarding how your agent would prefer these files, please let Jack know at the booking stage as, inevitably, each requirement for each agent will be bespoke in some way.
