New Ordering Method for SARS-CoV-2 Next Generation Sequencing Test
All facilities that wish to submit PCR positive SARS-CoV-2 samples for next
generation sequencing are strongly encouraged to use the COVID-19 Electronic
Test Request Form that is part of the OpenELIS Web Portal.

Lab announces holiday hours
In observance of Labor Day, the State Hygienic Laboratory Sample Receiving
Window and COVID-19 Testing Hotline will be staffed as follows.



Test Iowa At-Home: Directions to SHL for Kit Pick-Up
Test Iowa At-Home collection kits may be picked up at any of our three
laboratory locations during business hours.

Whole Genome Sequencing for COVID-19
Whole genome sequencing (WGS) determines the order of bases in the genome
(genetic material) of an organism. A genome consists of multiple genes which
determine the characteristics of the organism.

New Design for OpenELIS Web Portal on March 2nd
Beginning March 2nd the OpenELIS Web Portal will have a new and more responsive
design while still maintaining all of its current functionality. It will now be
easier to use on tablets, laptops, and cell phones. The web portal will be
temporarily unavailable beginning 11 PM March 1st – 1 AM March 2nd for this
deployment.
