SANOFI TO BUY BIPAR SCIENCES

LONDON -- French drug maker Sanofi-Aventis S.A. Wednesday said it was acquiring
privately held U.S. biotech company BiPar Sciences Inc. for up to $500 million
in another sign of the company's pursuit of small and mid-sized acquisitions.

The deal will reinforce Sanofi-Aventis' pipeline with new cancer therapies that
work by preventing tumor cells from repairing their own DNA. BiPar's key
experimental product is BSI-201, currently in mid-stage trials for advanced
breast cancer, ovarian cancer and other tumors.
