Severe Weather Threatens Southern Plains to Eastern Great Lakes
After a very busy day of severe weather across portions of the Midwest and
Mississippi Valley on Tuesday, severe weather will shift south and
eastward into the southern Plains to the eastern Great Lakes today.

A strong area of low pressure moving into Ontario, Canada will push a cold
front south and eastward today. By this afternoon, this front will be
stretching from Ohio into northern Texas. This front will separate very
warm and humid air to the south and east from cooler, drier air behind it.
The clash of these two air masses will result in a new round of severe
      weather today.

The government's Storm Prediction Center has issued a Slight Risk, or a 2
out of 5 on the severe weather probability scale, from western New York
and Pennsylvania southwestward through central Texas. Within this area, an
Enhanced Risk, or a 3 out of 5 on the severe weather probability scale, is
found from central and northern Texas into southeast Oklahoma and central
Arkansas. Cities within the Enhanced Risk include Little Rock, Ark. and
Dallas. Other cities at risk today include Buffalo, N.Y., Pittsburgh,
Columbus, Ohio, Louisville, Ky., Memphis, Tenn., and Austin, Texas.

Within the Enhanced Risk area will be the greatest threat to see golf ball
sized hail, wind gusts of 60-70 mph, and a few tornadoes. Within the
Slight Risk area, the main threat will be wind gusts of 50-60 mph, though
an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.

There is currenty a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for northeastern Texas,
southeastern Oklahoma, most of Arkansas into southeastern Missouri,
southwestern Kentucky, western Tennessee, and northern Mississippi. Some
cities affected include McAlester, Okla., Texarkana, Texas, Little Rock,
Ark, and Memphis, Tenn. A Tornado Watch is also in effect for parts of
central Texas, including San Angelo, Waco and Dallas.

Meanwhile, another Severe Thunderstorm Watch was issued for parts of the
Northeast into the Mid-Atlantic from western New York and central
Pennsylvania into parts of Maryland, West Virginia and northern Virginia.
This includes Syracuse and Binghamton, N.Y., Scranton and Harrisburg, Pa.,
Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Harrisonburg and Sterling, Va.

As the cold front keeps pushing eastward on Thursday, isolated severe
weather will be possible across portions of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic
states. However, the greatest chance for severe thunderstorms on Wednesday
will occur over the Great Plains into the Mid-South.

Make sure to know the difference between a watch and a warning should they
become issued. A watch means that conditions are favorable for severe
weather to occur and to be on alert for any rapidly changing conditions. A
warning means that severe weather is imminent, and you should act fast to
      remain safe.

The best way to remain safe is to stay prepared and informed about your
local weather. Have a severe weather kit packed with a battery-operated
radio, water and non-perishable food items should you be without power for
long periods of time. Also, check the WeatherBug app frequently for any
updates on today’s severe weather. Remember, “When Thunder Roars, Go
      Indoors!”
