PIX11 ‘IT’S SCARY TO RIDE THE TRAIN THESE DAYS’: SUBWAY VIOLENCE INCREASES IN NYC Zhané Caldwell 2 days ago LONG ISLAND CITY, Queens (PIX 11) — Police are investigating a subway attack at the Queens Borough Plaza station that sent one person to the hospital. Subway commuters in the area are now on high alert. ‘I saw the blood dripping on the snow’: LI officer stabbed during domestic 911 call “It’s scary to ride the train these days. It’s really scary,” said commuter Crystal Greene. A man believed to be in his 50s hit a 31-year-old victim in the back of the head with a pipe, police said. Detectives tell PIX11 News it happened just after midnight when the two got into an argument on the 7-train platform. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for his injuries. The man fled the scene, according to police. The city has seen several violent incidents on the subway this week. Less than a mile away at the Queens Plaza Station, a man slashed a 29-year-old tourist in the left side of his neck while on the mezzanine level of the E, M, R train lines Thursday morning. The victim was taken to a local hospital in stable condition. This past Monday an innocent bystander was killed in a Bronx subway shooting that left five others injured. The next day a woman allegedly attacked a cellist in the head with a metal bottle in Herald Square. Commuters say they plan to remain vigilant. “It’s terrifying,” said commuter Jesse Daddio. “You just got to have your guard up honestly.” “We have to take the subway, you know,” said commuter Wil who declined to give his last name. “We just got to be careful. Ride where there are a lot of people and whatnot. You just have to know how to go about it.” According to city data murder and rape incidents are down in the subways compared to the same time last year, however, other crimes are up including robbery which rose five percent.
