PROTECT PRESCOTT'S QUALITY OF LIFE ABOUT US We love the Prescott rodeo! But as concerned residents, we are opposed to Prescott Frontier Days, Inc. (PFD’s) Master Plan proposal to expand facilities and events on the city-owned fairgrounds property. PFD’s Master Plan envisions a large expansion of new facilities which, according to their own press release, would allow conventions, trade shows, meetings, concerts and festivals (both indoor and outdoor). Their plans include an expanded outdoor arena, a multi-use indoor arena, a private, members-only 7,480 square foot facility for the “Buckle Club,” and a multi-purpose pavilion. Since this Master Plan was first released in 2023, PFD has encountered a number of roadblocks: land use issues, questionable financial performance, a non-existent business plan, neighborhood opposition, an unresolved lawsuit over a state appropriation, no private funding (donor) commitments, concerns about pollution control, lights and noise, and escalating transparency issues with the Prescott City Council and the public. We do support common-sense and needed maintenance and repairs to the existing facilities. At the same time, we say "no" to the Master Plan and strongly encourage the city to provide a full accounting of all taxpayer subsidies provided to PFD, ensure PFD is compliant with the current lease, and most importantly, ensure PFD is acting as a responsible steward of this taxpayer land. We believe this taxpayer asset should be used to benefit all of Prescott -- without irrevocably harming the character of neighborhoods on the west side of Prescott, and significantly reducing property values and the quality of life for residents closest to the fairgrounds. RESIDENTS’ CONCERNS INCLUDE: * Unresolved transparency issues with neighbors and the Prescott City Council, such as applying to change zoning on city-owned property without the city council's knowledge or their approval of PFD's Master Plan * Failure to present any plan for needed repairs to existing facilities before leaping to a $40-$70 million dollar Master Plan * Insufficient “buildable” land to accommodate all the proposed facilities, current tenants, flood plain and environmental issues, traffic circulation, and parking for participants and guests * No feasibility study showing there is a demand for this type of entertainment venue * Questionnable financial performance including losses of over $137,000 in 2021 and $994,000 in 2022 despite claims of record attendance * No business plan to show how PFD, who relies on volunteers, will manage a wide range of events and maintain a large, multi-use entertainment venue with thousands of patrons * No concrete financing plan for this $40-$70 million Master Plan which relies initially on a state appropriation of $15.3 million currently being disputed in a lawsuit * No plan for addressing pollution control of kitchen and animal waste * No plan to address historical buildings and facilities on the property * No study or plan to address emergency service (vehicle) access to residents on the west side because of traffic congestion caused by events * Increased events = more traffic, noise and light pollution, dust, and flies for neighbors NEWS PUBLIC URGED TO ATTEND APRIL 9 CITY COUNCIL MEETING ON RODEO MASTER PLAN Read more DUE DILIGENCE – PRESCOTT FRONTIERS DAYS MASTER PLAN AND LEASE RENEGOTIATIONS Read more THE 1888 BUCKLE CLUB RODEO PETITION PLOY Read more RESOURCES FAQS PHOTOS DOCUMENTS GET UPDATES Stay updated on news, events and our full website launch.
