Video Transcript Cassandra Crothers-Swensson (Monash Health) Benefits of Hosting Student Placements Hi, my name’s Cassandra Crothers-Swensson and I’m a Health Promotion Practitioner at Monash Health and over seven years have worked on many different portfolios. When I first started in the health promotion industry, I was successful in getting a graduate position which then led to a full-time ongoing role. In my interview, I was able to speak about my own personal placement experience and so because of this, I feel very strongly about giving back and supporting students in gaining adequate and varied on-the-ground experience in the workforce. This will support them in getting a job after university. This also supports my own industry through up-skilling of future employees on practices they’ll need in the workforce, so that they are job ready. Having students on placement also provides me with the opportunity to improve my leadership skills through the supervision of others. This can now go on my CV and I can use it as a talking point in a job interview. Students help us to complete projects that we don’t always have the resources and capacity to do. I’m the Healthy Sports Clubs Project Lead and in the past students have supported us in developing two integral health areas within the pilot. This initiative has been very successful and is now being scaled and shared with other community health services across Victoria.
