Microsoft Outlook. You don't need to download any additional software and you
can just use this tool to fix Outlook related issues. Here, is the steps of
using scanpst.exe.


Notes: If you are going to use scanpst.exe then you must backup outlook data
file before using it. Most of the users have claimed that they have some missing
emails after using scanpst.exe.


1. Make sure to Show Hidden Files and Folders option is enabled. Open File
Explorer by pressing Windows Key + E. Go to View > Options > Change folder and
search options. Select View tab and, in Advanced settings, select Show hidden
files, folders, and drivers and OK.

3. Double click on scanpst.exe to run this application. When you run this
application it will ask you to browse and open PST file. You may find Outlook
PST File in the following location:

Outlook 2007 and previous


C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\



Outlook 2010, Outlook 2013, Outlook 2016, Outlook 2019 and Office 365


C:\Users\%username%\Documents\Outlook Files\

4. Click on Start button to scan Pst file error. It will start analyzing the PST
file.

5. After analyzing the file; it will show you the scanned report along with
error message. It will also suggest you to make backup of PST File before
performing any operation on original copy. It is recommended to make a backup of
PST file before repairing it. Now, click on Repair to repair PST File.


Note: scanpst.exe might take long time to repair PST File and it goes through
the 8 phases of scanning process. You may see the Not responding message in
title bar but in actually it is running in background so, relax and wait for few
several minutes. Depending on the size of the PST File; it will take time. If it
really hangs, then you can abort the process using Process Manager. Press Ctrl +
Shift + Esc and go to process tab. Right click on scanpst.exe and select End
Process.

6. If everything goes well, then you will see Repair Complete message. If
scanpst.exe fails to repair pst file then try running scanpst.exe again. If it
doesn't work again then you must use Stellar Outlook PST Repair Tool to fix
Outlook PST Error.

SOLUTION 3: FIX OUTLOOK DATA FILE (.OST)

If you are using Outlook.com, Outlook365, or Exchange account then follow these
steps to Repair corrupted OST file.

1. Close Outlook

2. Find OST File from following location. Open Run Dialog Box by pressing
Windows Key + R and paste following location and click OK.

3. Right click on your OST File and select Delete.

4. Once you delete this file, open Outlook. Outlook will create a new OST file
and import all the data from Outlook.com, Outlook 365 or Exchange Account.

SOLUTION 4: RESTORE PST FILE FROM BACKUP

If you have backup of PST file, then the best way to avoid PST related issues is
to restoring this file with previous cleaned file. Here, is the complete steps
to restoring PST file from backup.

 1. Browse the backup file and rename it with .bak.pst extension.
 2. Now, open Outlook and Go to File > Open & Export and then click on
    Import/Export button.
 3. Select the Import from another program or file option and click Next.
 4. Select the Outlook Data File (.pst) option and click Next.
 5. Browse the backup file, select import option and click Next.
 6. Select the Items you want to restore and import and then click Finish.
 7. By this way you will be able to restore PST file and use Outlook without
    previous problems.

SOLUTION 5: FIX OUTLOOK CRASHES UNEXPECTEDLY

This is also a very common problem for outlook users that Outlook keep closes
unexpectedly and crashes. This is very annoying problems and most of the time it
causes data loss. The main reason behind Outlook crashes is Add-ins. Add-ins are
designed and developed to add extra features in outlook but most of the time
these Add-ins create problems with outlook. If Add-ins gets corrupted or damaged
then it will create problems with outlook.

In order to fix Outlook Crashes Unexpectedly issue, you need to disable Add-ins.

DISABLE ADD-INS FROM OUTLOOK 2007

 1. Click on Tools > Trust Center > Add-ins
 2. At the "Manage" Dropdown list, select which types of Add-ins you would like
    to enable/disable.
 3. Press Go to make the changes.
 4. Restart Outlook.

DISABLE ADD-INS FROM OUTLOOK 2010/2013 AND 2016

 1. Go to File > Section Options > Select Add-ins
 2. At the "Manage" Dropdown list, select which types of Add-ins you would like
    to enable/disable.
 3. Press Go to make the changes.
 4. Restart Outlook.

SOLUTION 6: RUN OUTLOOK IN SAFE MODE

If Outlook is creating problems back-to-back, then you must try to start Outlook
in Safe Mode. In Safe Mode, Outlook gets start only with necessary components
and it doesn't load any third party Add-ins or plugins.

 1. Close Outlook
 2. Open Run Dialog box by pressing Windows Key + R simultaneously. Type
    following command in Run Dialog Box and press OK.
    
    Outlook.exe /safe

SOLUTION 7: DISABLE ANTIVIRUS AND FIREWALL TEMPORARILY

Antivirus and Firewall scans all the incoming mails and block suspicious
connections. If you are unable to send or receive emails or getting other
connection errors then temporarily disable Antivirus and Firewall and start
Outlook. Don't forget to enable Antivirus and Firewall after diagnosing
problems. Keeping them Disable may make your PC vulnerable.
