LANDSCAPE MATTERS:


A GARDEN DESIGN SYMPOSIUM

Join us for a day of exploring the juxtaposition of formality and informality,
the tension it creates, and what lessons can be incorporated into your home
landscape. This three-part program includes an introductory lecture, a
facilitated tour of Fair Lane, and a guided, hands-on design session exploring
residential landscape using skills learned through the day’s activities.



Registration for this event is $75 and includes a guided estate tour, morning
pastries, and a boxed lunch. Limited availability.

MATTHEW ROSS

Executive Director, The Botanic Garden at Historic Barns Park, Traverse City, MI

As Executive Director of The Botanic Garden at Historic Barns Park in Traverse
City, Michigan, Mr. Ross oversees the 26-acre Botanical Garden, which
visionaries Kurt and Karen Schmidt and a team of volunteers on the site of the
Northern Michigan Asylum Farm founded.  Before coming home to Michigan, Matthew
was the Director of Continuing Education at Longwood Gardens, a college
instructor at Owens Community College, and chief Horticulturist at Toledo
Botanic Garden.  Having visited over 2,500 public and private gardens from
across the globe, Matthew is well-versed as a design instructor.  Balancing his
passion for native plants and botanical curiosities, his design portfolio often
blends modern hardscape elements with informal planting designs.  He is a
well-respected public garden professional who spends his spare time kayaking,
hiking, and exploring the vast landscape of Northern Michigan.  He grew up in
the metro Detroit region and is honored to be presenting at Fair Lane.

With flowers popping up and buds growing on trees, it's beginning to look like
Spring in #Dearborn. This month, we will discuss everything spring- and
nature-related you can find in and around #FairLane. To start, we'd like to
highlight the Weeping Beech Tree in front of the Main Residence of Fair Lane.
This tree is at least 100 years old and is believed to have been a gift from
Edsel Ford to his parents for their 50th wedding anniversary.
