Ame Abdurahman

MY NAME IS AME ABDURAHMAN,

I am an Equality Ambassador and my goal is to create a fair and inclusive
education system that provides equal opportunities for all people in Ireland.

EDUCATION

I  am an Equality Ambassador graduated from Kerry Education services. With my
educational background in Economics, I am equipped to analyze and tackle the
economic disparities that often hinder equality in Ireland. Together, we can
work towards a future where every Citizen has an equal chance to succeed.

POLICY PLATFORM

1.  HOUSING for all: Providing affordable housing options for every member of
our community, ensuring safe and comfortable living conditions for all Tralee
residents.

Making housing choices accessible to everyone in our community

An officially published report from the Housing Commission has criticized the
government's lack of action. It calls for an urgent increase in housing supply,
investment of public funds in home construction, and the use of vacant
properties. These are the changes I've been advocating for with #RaiseTheRoof,
(nodexlgraphgallery.org).  If I get elected to Kerry county council, I will work
with other similar-minded councilors to urge our government to adopt these
policies.

2. EQUALITY: Fostering a society in Tralee where everyone is treated fairly and
has equal opportunities, regardless of their background, race, gender, or
socioeconomic status.

Creating a society in Tralee where everyone is respected and has the same
chances.

Additional research corroborates that the disparity in income levels saw an
uptick in 2021, a trend observed consistently with or without considering the
expenses related to housing

The Taoiseach has stated that "still far too many" Irish children are going to
bed hungry, despite Ireland being among the wealthiest countries in the European
Union.

3. SUSTAINABILITY IN ENVIRONMENT:

Climate change:

Being able to witness the extent of the climate catastrophe is truly impactful.
This realization strikes close to home as we can see the dire consequences first
hand. As someone who has seen so the staggering displacement caused by the
climate crisis globally, this issue holds immense importance to me.

Having the ability to advocate and mobilize support for victims of global
climate change, and being nominated for the role of Special Rapporteur on the
human right to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment at the United
Nations Human Rights Council.

Implementing and supporting eco-friendly practices to protect our environment
and preserve the natural beauty of Tralee for current and future generations.

Promoting and maintaining green practices to safeguard our environment

The image from @ESA the Killarney fire serves as a stark reminder that if we
don't take swift and concrete steps, the rate of environmental devastation will
surge dramatically, leading to disastrous consequences for all of us

4. GROWTH BASED ON KNOWLEDGE: Promoting a knowledge-based economy that
stimulates innovation and entrepreneurship, attracting businesses and investment
to Tralee while ensuring job growth and development opportunities for our
citizens.

5. Global Peace.

I have long advocated for peace globally and have done research on the root
causes of conflict in the horn of Africa. The Horn of Africa's strategic
location, economic potential, and regional stability are pivotal for global
trade and peace, with international cooperation and humanitarian efforts being
essential for its development and the well-being of its people.

My work in conflict research in the Horn of Africa primarily focuses on the
complex issues surrounding cross-border livestock trade, small arms, and
conflicts in pastoral areas. my research delves into the traditional conflicts
endemic to pastoral and agro-pastoral areas of the Horn of Africa, which often
involve disputes over access to resources such as grasslands, water, and
livestock. These conflicts are typically between different ethnic pastoral
groups and can have spill-over effects on neighbouring countries, especially
when the same ethnic group resides across borders.

My work highlight the lack of attention and resolution mechanisms for these
conflicts, emphasizing the need for a better understanding of pastoral conflicts
to develop effective mitigation and peace-building policies. Cross-border
