Today we are ending our pending acquisition with Adobe, as we no longer see a
path toward regulatory approval of the deal. I am so proud of how the Figma
team navigated the uncertainty of a pending acquisition, shipping and
building over an epic 2023, and I’m so grateful to our community for
supporting us. Lots ahead in 2024! https://lnkd.in/gvhrKQf2

Storytelling is how I think about absolutely everything, from building
products to approaching my career. It’s one of my favorite topics to talk
about, and recently, I had the chance to dive into this with EO STUDIO as I
reflected on my journey in product management and what I’ve learned trying to
build products that people love. Here are a few ways I’ve thought about
storytelling: 1. When you’re selling a product, you’re not selling a bunch of
features; you’re selling a story for where your product and company are
headed. Customers are betting on your vision and the future, not just the
immediate functionality in front of them. 2. When you’re thinking about your
career, it’s often helpful to think about the narrative. In career 1:1s, my
favorite question is, “years from now, when you look back on this chapter of
your career, what story would you want to tell about your time here?” 3. When
you’re confronted with a design that just feels too complicated, I like to
ask “how would you want a screen reader to narrate this experience?” and push
the team to clearly reflect that narration in the design (e.g., in the IA or
via visual hierarchy). 4. When I first came to Figma, I felt OKRs weren’t
telling the entire picture of what was really motivating teams, so I instead
asked for “headlines” that reflect what the team wants to be able to say at
the end of the quarter. If you’re interested, check out the interview where
we dive deeper into storytelling, Figma, and my thoughts on building
   products!

Seeing how Figma Dev Mode and Variables play together gives me so much joy!
It’s like seeing your kids getting along (or actually… becoming friends that
bring out the best in each other). Today, we’re sharing a few ways that you
can amplify your design system through Dev Mode. 1/ Many people assume that
Dev Mode doesn’t work for you if you’re using a design system. But, in fact,
Dev Mode can amplify the details of your design system like component
documentation, component code or variables. Check out how Razorpay is doing
this: https://bit.ly/47b7ciB 2/ If you’re working with a mature design
system, we’ve heard loud and clear that autogenerated code might not be right
for you. That’s why I’m so excited about the power of codegen plugins that
can surface code snippets directly from your design system. See our new
plugin in action here: https://bit.ly/3Ti999z 3/ We also recognize that code
doesn’t always map to designs perfectly. And designers aren’t always using
your design system perfectly. We’ve added features that help you keep these
more in sync, with code syntax for variables (to align naming conventions)
and REST API to support more robust token syncing. Read how the Figma team
manages this: https://bit.ly/4akNkfq There’s so much more we can be doing to
bring the worlds of design and code closer together. I’m excited about this
first step, the first of many more! A big shout out to the team that brought
this together: Bersabel Tadesse, Alex Mullans, Chris Felix, Annie Berrones,
   Jake A. and many more

This year, instead of a "wrapping up" or "signing off" we are embracing the
wonderfully WIP, always-be-iterating creative process with Figma's 2023
Handoff, a year-end celebration of the big plays and deep learnings we plan
to carry into next season. https://bit.ly/3v1787m 🏆From minute details that
made a big difference, to the major product launches that changed the game,
we breakdown what this year’s big releases say about where work will
take us next. ✨We dig into how product managers from Figma, Duolingo,
LinkedIn, and Asana are cutting through the hype to ship AI features that
matter to their users. ❤️🔥We dare you to reignite your passion for
technology with a series of 36 questions designed to tap back in to what made
you fall in love with it in the first place. 🗓For those who find themselves
in a cycle of perpetual meeting, and not a lot of doing, we offer up the
ultimate meetings guide—a packed agenda of all the pain points before,
during, and after the Zoom. (Plus a smattering of helpful Figma templates.)
❝™️A new year and new norms call for new terms. Our new unofficial work term
glossary uncovers how work defined us and how we define it—from slacklash, to
toggle tax, to our personal Figma fave SUDDEN HEAVY STAMPING. It's our
definition of what work looks and feels like right now. 🔀 And for those who
are thinking of branching out into something new next year, we investigate
some archetypical professional pivots—like “the boomerang” and “the hard
left”—along with stories from designers and engineers who've pivoted in and
out of tech. And of course, it wouldn't be a true year-end extravaganza
without some epic, all-caps, SWAG ⌨️ 👀, so ctrl + O and ENJOY. ✨Animation by
