REGIONAL FOOD CULTURE AND NATURE

HOSPITALITY TOUR TO EXPERIENCE WISE USE AND LOCAL CLIMATE X FOOD IN THE RAMSAR
CONVENTION “IZUNUMA/UCHINUMA”

Bird watching in the Ramsar Convention registered wetland “Izunuma/Uchinuma” is
centered around “taking off” early in the morning and “roosting” in the evening.
The biggest feature of this program is the overwhelming number of wild birds. It
is said to be near the southern limit on the Pacific side where magans fly in,
and about 90% of magans that come to Japan overwinter around Izunuma. The
wetland from the paddy field trail to the water's edge is relatively narrow, and
the distance between birds and people is unique to Izunuma. The experience of
being surrounded by large flocks of birds rushing in from the surface of the
lake will be something you will never forget for the rest of your life.
