MILLERSBURG, Ore. - Two have been confirmed dead after a small aircraft crashed
into a hayfield behind Deciduous Avenue in Millersburg Friday evening, according
to the Linn County Sheriff's Office.
When deputies and other fire personnel arrived at 8:52 p.m, there were several
citizens in the area directing them to an aircraft with two occupants.
During the investigation, deputies learned that Charles Kizer, 57, of Albany,
was operating the aircraft.
The passenger was Matthew Irish, 49, of Albany. Both were pronounced deceased at
the scene.
The aircraft is a North Wing Trike, which is a two-seater, motorized glider-type
aircraft, officials say.
One woman KEZI spoke to said she watched it happen and heard a loud crash before
neighbors raced to help.
Another resident, Daniel Bixler, said he watched the small plane fly really low
in the area before hearing a loud boom.
"I heard a gigantic boom," said Bixler. "So then I yelled to call 911, and
several other people on the street heard the same boom and called 911. By the
time I got my phone there was already a lot of other people at the scene."
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
Since the aircraft was motorized and had a capacity of two persons, the Federal
Aviation Administration (FAA) was contacted and will help in the investigation.
Linn County was assisted by the Jefferson Fire Department, Albany Fire
Department, and the Linn County Medical Examiner.
