By National Fruit Fly Council 22 followers Follow WHEN AND WHERE DATE AND TIME Thu., 30 March 2023, 11:00 am – 12:00 pm AEDT LOCATION Online ABOUT THIS EVENT * 1 hour * Mobile eTicket Fruit fly continues to be the single biggest risk to trade and impacts much of the horticultural production in Australia. In the lead up to the National Fruit Fly Council (NFFC) Symposium in July this year, we will host a ‘Think Tank’ webinar series covering strategic priority issues including market access, SIT and policy, area wide management (AWM), and fruit fly systems. Join the National Fruit Fly Council for the first ‘Think Tank’ webinar on Thursday, 30 March from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm (AEDT), to discuss the continued importance of a strong domestic and international biosecurity system to support market access in Australia. Phytosanitary data packages provide the confidence to trading partners that fruit is free from fruit fly. Developing commercially-viable, targeted, effective and accepted phytosanitary measures assists in accessing new markets, and mitigates risks from the ever-evolving global market access landscape. Is proactively engaging with the global market access system and modernising research efforts contributing to technical market access, the way forward? What more can we do? A presentation will be delivered by Dr Penny Measham, Director of RD&E at the Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, who also leads the Market Access team that helps growers with long-term agreements to export produce and negotiating trade pathways. Sally Ormiston, Assistant Director of Market Coordination and Strategy at the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) will also be presenting.
