ANNOUNCING COPILOT PAGES FOR MULTIPLAYER COLLABORATION

‎Sep 16 2024 08:00 AM

Today we announced Copilot Pages, the first step in our new design system for
knowledge work. Copilot Pages is a dynamic, persistent canvas in Copilot chat
designed for multiplayer AI collaboration. With Pages, you can turn insightful
Copilot responses into something durable with a side-by-side page that you can
edit and, when ready, share with your team to collaborate. Copilot Pages starts
rolling out today for Microsoft 365 Copilot users and soon for all other
Microsoft 365 subscribers.

If you have a Microsoft 365 Copilot license, you and your team can work with
Copilot directly on the page when you open it in full screen. In a multiplayer
approach, prompt Copilot together as a team to improve and expand responses,
learn from each other’s prompts, and organize complex information. With Copilot
Pages, human to AI interactions come to life. We see collaborative prompting as
the next great step forward in evolving Copilot from an individual,
point-in-time exercise into a collaborative experience.

Here's how you can use Copilot Pages.

 1. Access Copilot at Microsoft.com/Copilot. If you have an M365 Copilot
license, you can also access Copilot in Teams and Outlook.
 2. Chat with Copilot as you usually would. Once you receive a response you'd
like to keep, click 'Edit in Pages'. This will create a page and open it
side-by-side the chat with the response already copied and formatted,
including link previews and code blocks. A reference to the page will
automatically be added in the chat.
 3. Add and refine. You can continue your conversation in chat. Clicking 'Edit
in Pages' will add subsequent responses to the bottom of the page.
Everything on the page is editable - just click on the page and start
typing. Pro tip: type "/" to view a menu of content types that you can use.
 4. Share and collaborate. When you are ready, you can share your page with
others who will be able to collaborate on it with you. People you share with
will have access to the page and its content, not your Copilot session. If
you and your team have a Microsoft 365 Copilot license, you can view the
page in full screen to use Copilot directly within the page, adding to each
other's prompts and collaborating on a final output. Pro tip: Click the
share icon in the upper right and select "Copy component" to surface the
page in a fully interactive way when you paste it in Teams or Outlook.
 5. Access your pages. Return to your page at any time by clicking the link in
the chat where you first created the page or by opening the Pages tab in
Microsoft365.com, where you will see all the Pages that you previously
    created.

Key Features

 * Persistent: Copilot Pages takes ephemeral AI-generated content and makes it
durable, allowing you to edit and add to it.

 * Shareable: Any page you create can be shared as a dynamic, collaborative
element in your Teams chats and channels, Outlook emails and meetings, or in
the Pages module in the Microsoft M365 app.

 * Multiplayer: Work collaboratively with your teammates. See everyone’s work in
real time and iterate on Copilot prompts as a team if you have a Microsoft
   365 Copilot license.

Here is a short animation will show you how the feature works:

Copilot Pages start rolling out today for Microsoft 365 Copilot customers, check
out the experience at Microsoft.com/Copilot. If you are an IT Admin, read this
update to understand how Copilot Pages work and what it means for your
organization

Where are these "Pages" files stored? Is there a retention/recovery mechanism
for them? Do DLP policies apply to these files?

Would you please, please, PLEASE stop rolling things out as default ON the very
same day you announce them and post them to the M365 Admin Message Center and
slide in the "oh, admins can control if they wanna," like you're throwing us a
bone? This is so maddening.

Announce these things to admins ahead of time or, at the very least, roll them
out as default off and give us some time to review and make decisions about
these new products.

Hello,

I have MS 365 family for some time.

Today I got Copilot Pro.

I installed the desktop app of copilot.

I don't see "Edit pages" option.

What am I doing wrong or missing?

is that "pages" option only for business?

Thank you for providing more information about this. I share the opinion
of @m36five . Please give us more time to prepare. Also, the policy wasn't
available until this morning. So, we couldn't even turn it off in time. This is
not done. Microsoft should move to a default OFF for new features instead of
turning them on. Maybe this should be a tenant setting "would you like to
automatically opt-in to new features".

Microsoft often likes to release products that are completely unprepared. There
have been too many examples of this in the past, and now Pages is another one.
You tell me, as a Copilot Pro subscriber, I can’t even use it, so what’s the
point of Microsoft releasing this product?

 1. What happens to people who had Loop access before? Are they no longer able
to access if they don't have a Copilot license?
 2. I thought Loop was meant to be a competitor to Notion - how is turning this
into a Copilot feature different than using Copilot in Word?

Further info on my prev post:

I am baffled.

I have 365 family account.

I purchased Copilot Pro yesterday.

I seem to have an entraid tenant id entry as well when i check there.

Yet I don't see "edit pages" the new wave2 feature. How come?

is the 365 family users have access to "edit pages" or not if they have copilot
pro?

I asked the same with CoPilot Pro. [It seem to think the roll out...?]

Anyway appreciate any clarification.

Thanks

@satyakomatineni in an enterprise environment, I've seen it take up to 72 hours
for users to see all the features of Copilot for 365 be enabled.

Thank you @careyjm . Hope that is the case and that the feature is expected to
be in the personal edition as well.

@Megan_Dohnal hello. If you know if this feature is 'for sure" in the "personal
edition" as well, if I have a) Copilot Pro, b) 365 Family and c) I have gotten
an entra id as well.

Really appreciate your time.

Why can't MS stop making their branding so confusing?  Looking at the admin page
this would be more clearly described as "Loop in Copilot" not to be confused
with Copilot in Loop.  Our users get confused, which makes adoption efforts
harder, and then MS blames us for misusing Copilot.

I suggest Microsoft rename "Pages" ... That workmark is already in use by and is
a registered trademark of Apple. Pages® is the long-standing name for Apple's
word processor that competes with Office 365 Word within the macOS and iOS
ecosystems.

https://www.apple.com/legal/intellectual-property/trademark/appletmlist.html

Many macOS and iOS systems will have both Office 365 and the native
Apple Pages®, Numbers®, and Keynote® products and the phrase "Edit in Pages"
means something completely different. This brand interference will be
unnecessarily confusing.

We do not have this yet either, but key questions:

 1. Has anyone found tangible uses for CoPilot as it currently exists?
 2. Do people fiind the intrustion of CoPilot into apps distracting?
 3. Does anyone use Loop pages and workspaces?
 4. Will anyone use CoPilot Pages (CoPilot + Loop Workspaces)?

@RobOK I use CoPilot every day and don't find it distracting. I think if you are
open to reconsidering your own workflow and how having a virtual assistant work
with you as a collaborator it is extremely helpful. If you think your workflow
is already perfect and you don't need any help it isn't the right product for
you.

A great example is recently I was asked by my boss to help with an RFP for
service I don't have any experience buying.  Within an hour I had a great
structure to the RFP, a lot of detail based on our needs, outside help no risks
to consider, evaluation criteria, etc.  As our team reviewed it, we needed very
few changes.

This worked because I was willing to treat CoPilot as both an assistant and an
expert depending on the portion of the RFP I was writing, it broke writers
block, gave me confidence in completing a task I never completed, and was able
to either answer questions or point me in a direction to get questions answered
along the way.

@MarcRohde thanks for sharing! To clarify, I use multiple AI tools on a daily
basis to figure out for me and for my company where the opportunities are. I was
super-excited for microsoft to build AI into the tools, and perhaps we will get
there one day, but the current state is pretty bad. I use ChatGPT 4o, Claude 3.5
Sonnet, and some others and they are light years ahead. Specifically i want
CoPilot to take advantage of the tens of thousands of documents we have in O365
Sharepoint, but it doesn't (i can feed in a document).

The distraction part is the bar across the top of the word document, or the bar
in my limited Outlook (on the web) real estate. Just now I tried to use Excel to
highlight specific values in Light Green, after six attempts I gave up. CoPilot
in Excel strongly wants your data in Tables which I don't use.

@EugeneNELL

Microsoft doesn't roll new features out to all tenants and all users at once.
Instead it is a gradual, phased roll-out. Please see this article: When do I get
the newest features for Microsoft 365? - Microsoft Support
Also Microsoft updated the M365 Admin Message Center article two days
ago: MC890882

<snip>

When this will happen:

General Availability (Worldwide) to Microsoft 365 Copilot subscribers: We will
begin rolling out today, September 16, 2024, and expect to complete by early
October 2024 (previously late September).

</snip>

Early October can still be tomorrow or next week even. And it can happen your
'neighbor in the office' will have it and you don't.

I guess you could try giving feedback on the MC890882 article in M365 Admin or
create a support ticket, but I recommend to wait a bit... it will come.

And no, I don't have it either yet, not at my company tenant nor my customer
tenant and waiting anxiously too to start using it 😉

Customers are not happy with Copilot, except for Recap.  And while customers are
open to pilot pages the roll out is nonexistent and customers are fed up waiting
for updates that never come, and are no longer interested...now they are moving
to other solutions.

@ScottParramore, I guess your perspective is different than mine. I see customer
embracing M365 Copilot in their own pace. I admit, I also see customer sprinkle
licenses around and get disappointed. But through providing guidance and
support, I see them get enthusiastic again.
M365 Copilot is great for customer that have their data stored in M365 (Office
documents, E-mails, Teams meetings and messages etc) and therefore can directly
leverage all this wealth using GenAI using OpenAI's LLM... through Microsoft 365
Copilot.
Also, when customers have decent Data Governance, apply sensitivity labels and
encryption it is also a great way to keep data safe and secure.
Customers not on M365, but still largely on-premise will have challenging times
and can benefit from other solutions.

Has this started rolling out yet? It's been 3 weeks?? So much for creating
something and then it takes weeks to roll out. Not good.

It showed up today in both my employer and customer tenant.
Do you see Pages in the left hand menu bar on office.com

Than it should be in M365 Copilot as well:

@EugeneNELL, must be, sorry.
But one check question though: You do have Microsoft 365 Copilot (aka for work)
license?
Because Microsoft Copilot (aka for web) comes later: Copilot pages for IT Admins
- Sep 2024 update - Microsoft Community Hub

(if all fails, create a support ticket with Microsoft through your M365
Tenant/Admin).

hi @EugeneNELL and all! We have now rolled out Copilot Pages to 100% of
customers with Microsoft 365 Copilot (for work) licenses. If you have the
license, you should now be able to use Copilot Pages when you're on the Work tab
in Copilot. Thanks for your patience and I hope you enjoy working with it!

When will this be released for users who only use Microsoft 365 (not Microsoft
365 Copilot)?

@skasai470

I would like to know (more exactly) as well, but Microsoft AFAIK has not shared
anything more than in the coming weeks, after their Wave 2 announcements on Sept
16th.

See: Microsoft 365 Copilot Wave 2: Pages, Python in Excel, and agents |
Microsoft 365 Blog
"In the coming weeks, we’re also bringing Copilot Pages to the more than 400
million people who have access to the free Microsoft Copilot when they’re signed
in with a Microsoft Entra account—offering the combination of web grounding,
enterprise data protection (EDP), and Pages."
