Jay explains, “This song is an ode to the first meeting I had with my birth father, Rob. It’s the last track on the album. It began as a journal entry and danced it’s way on to the piano. It was really hard to put into words at the time but the melody kinda wrote itself. To me, it’s an open hearted, bluntly honest representation of the way I felt on that very magical day. "Rob had the incredible idea of playing a drum solo at the end of the track, to encompass the story. It was a wonderful surprise when our producer, Brent Clark, sent new files over to Nashville and I got to hear it for the first time. I cried it was so awesome! Right then I knew the track AND the record was finished. The album, in its entirety suddenly all made sense to me.” Rob adds, “Jay has managed to capture our much anticipated first ever meeting with this song – all the excitement, joy and humour. It’s the perfect bookend for our album.” Discussing the accompanying video, Jay says, “I just love how this music video came together. I love how dark and eclectic it is, it just really suits the track. Rob’s epic drum solo at the end of the clip is the highlight for me! It totally makes it!” Award winning music video producer Mark O’Shea (Jay’s husband), pulled together the footage he had taken of the father/daughter team over various trips back and forth from Sydney to Nashville, as they recorded their debut album, “The Lost and The Found”. The icing on the cake is the unique, powerful footage of Rob playing his drum solo, recorded by Jim Moginie in his Northern Beaches studio. The Lost and The Found is a broad church. A songwriters album. “Some of the songs are bluesy, others are ‘atmos-pop’” explains Rob. “Plus there’s some rock and country thrown in”. The common thread is strong storytelling, as well as the use of real instruments including piano, cello, violin, harmonica, trumpet, acoustic and electric guitars, bass and drums. The 11-track long player represents Rob and Jay’s first album together, and their first collaboration since 2016’s The Truth Walks Slowly, a Golden Guitar-winning song dedicated to the late Queensland farmer George Bender. Both outstanding musicians in their own right, together they’ve combined to deliver an album that perfectly unites their vocals, songwriting and music sensibilities. Rob Hirst resides in Sydney, Jay O’Shea in Franklin, Tennessee. Rob and Jay got together whenever they could, in Australia and the US, to work up new songs. Over a year and a half they sent music files to each other, swapping lyrics and melodies. Jay would add lead vocals, harmonies and melodies to Rob's guitar, guide vocals and beats, with Rob working up Jay's original material. They built this suite of songs from rough demos and the pieces of the puzzle all came together during a week of album recording in Nashville.
