VARIETIES
SAPPHIRE
Sapphire is a precious gemstone, a variety of the mineral corundum, consisting
of aluminium oxide with trace amounts of elements such as iron, titanium,
chromium, vanadium, or magnesium.

RUBY
A ruby is a pink to blood-red colored gemstone, a variety of the mineral
corundum (aluminium oxide). Other varieties of gem-quality corundum are called
sapphires. Ruby is one of the traditional cardinal gems, together with amethyst,
sapphire, emerald, and diamond. The word ruby comes from ruber, Latin for red.
The color of a ruby is due to the element chromium.

ALEXANDRITE
Alexandrite is the color-change variety of the mineral chrysoberyl. Green by
Day. Alexandrite is bluish green in daylight or fluorescent light. Red by Night.
Alexandrite is purplish red in incandescent light or candlelight.

PADPARADSCHA
Padparadscha sapphire is a special variety of gem corundum, featuring a delicate
color that is a mixture of pink and orange – a marriage between ruby and yellow
sapphire. ... Today, padparadscha is narrowly defined by Western gemologists as
a Sri Lankan sapphire of delicate pinkish orange color.

EMERALD
Emerald is a gemstone and a variety of the mineral beryl colored green by trace
amounts of chromium and/or sometimes vanadium. Beryl has a hardness of 7.5–8 on
the Mohs scale. Most emeralds are highly included, so their toughness is
classified as generally poor. Emerald is a cyclosilicate.

STAR STONE
An asterism is a star-shaped concentration of reflected or refracted light from
a gemstone. Asterisms can appear when a suitable stone is cut en cabochon i.e.
shaped and polished. A gemstone that exhibits this effect is referred to as a
star stone or asteria.

CAT’S EYE
Cat's eyes commonly occur in yellow, yellow-brown and greenish-yellow. Some
stones, such as cat's eye alexandrite, can even exhibit colour change which is
very rare, extremely expensive and desirable. The chatoyancy is caused by very
fine needles which give a bright, sharply defined eye.

SPINEL
Spinel is the magnesium/aluminium member of the larger spinel group of minerals.
It has the formula MgAl ₂O ₄ in the cubic crystal system. Its name comes from
the Latin word spinella, which means spine in reference to its pointed crystals.
