DCCA WARNS OF SCAM CALLS TARGETING LICENSES OF MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS

The Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs is warning the public about
phone scammers impersonating state officials and government agencies to target
medical professionals, particularly those in the dental field. These scammers
make false threats of investigations in an attempt to obtain sensitive personal
information.

MODULAR HOME HAULING ON NOV. 22 AND 23 FOR LAHAINA TEMPORARY HOUSING

Motorists are advised of potential traffic delays as modular homes for wildfire
survivors are transported from Kahului to the state’s Ka Laʻi Ola housing site
in Lahaina on Friday and Saturday night. The Hawai‘i Department of
Transportation reports that hauling will take place nightly on Friday, Nov. 22
and Saturday, Nov. 23 beginning at 9 p.m. and is expected to end at 11:59 p.m.

HAWAIʻI’S SUICIDE HELPLINE STRUGGLES TO MEET DEMAND AFTER MAUI WILDFIRE

A surge of calls to the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline one year after the
Lahaina wildfires underscores urgent need for expanded Hawaiʻi-based mental
health support services. However, limited local resources have caused many calls
to be rerouted to out-of-state services, exposing critical gaps in local mental
health infrastructure, according to the University of Hawaiʻi. These findings
were published in JAMA Network Open on Nov. 20.

Kaua‘i County Public Works Solid Waste explained that because the Kapa‘a
transfer station is closed and under renovation and the Līhu‘e transfer station
is still under construction, individual rubbish trucks must offload at the
landfill instead of transfer stations, resulting in longer haul times.
