Atlantic City will get $20 million to elevate U.S. 40 as it goes into the city
in an attempt to end the flooding that makes the major approach road and
evacuation route hazardous, the U.S. Department of Transportation announced
Thursday.
The higher road, combined with an extended seawall, and new drainage systems are
designed to withstand severe storm surges and prevent the crashes that occur on
a slippery, flooded highway.
