Frank Shepley founded Shepley Engineers in Manchester in 1948, and since then we’ve been a nuclear stalwart. In late 1948 we were working on the stainless ducting on the Windscale Piles, and were involved in the commissioning of the world’s first commercial nuclear power plant, Calder Hall. We led the recent iron restoration of Elizabeth Tower (Big Ben) and the Houses of Parliament, and we are now currently working on Britain’s next generation nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C. Over seventy years from that day in 1948, we’re now established as a major contractor within several highly-regulated industries. Through acquisition we also have two wholly owned subsidiaries, West Cumberland Engineering and PPS Electrical, giving the Group a combined 128 year experience. We are the longest-serving continuous contractor to work on Sellafield, and our company ethos is a major part of that. We put our clients first, supporting their business needs and delivering engineering solutions with commitment, care and consideration. We have amassed a combined 58 years of RoSPA Gold Awards, and in 2022 won the Highly Commended in Engineering Services Sector Award. It was great to have over 30 of our apprentices together for this fantastic experience. Many thanks to Lakes College for facilitating our discussion on apprenticeship programmes and end point assessments, with some excellent advice given! We held our first Employer End-Point Assessment (EPA) workshop at Lakes College this week, bringing together more than 35 The Shepley Group apprentices for an insightful and productive session. The day kicked off with an introduction from Ryan Christie, project manager at Shepley, followed by our guest speakers Tina and Stewart from Engepa to explain the EPA process for welding and fabrication apprenticeships. John Edmundson also shared key requirements for the pipe welding EPA. Our apprentices then split into groups, with each team guided by staff members specialising in their apprenticeship standards. Graham Ball led the mechanical standards group, while John Wilson and Steve Birch supported the metal fabricators and welders alongside Dave Norman from Shepley. The session wrapped up with a valuable Q&A session where apprentices had the unique opportunity to connect directly with their employer, training provider and an EPA organisation, addressing any questions or concerns in one go. This workshop was a fantastic chance for everyone — from new starters to those nearing their EPA — to better understand the responsibilities of all parties involved in the apprenticeship journey. #ReadyRespectfulPotential #SkillsForLife #ItAllStartsWithSkills 1822View on Facebook
