If you haven't already noticed, there are thousands of printed cookbooks and websites on numerous cultural foods such as Italian, American, Asian, Mediterranean, etc. The list can go on. However, how many cookbooks can you find on Haitian cuisine? Well, simply put, not many... Nowadays, there are several people sharing Haiti's culture and cuisine on the world wide web and I'd like to do my part by sharing my take and influences on the matter. Haiti is a culture full of rich and vibrant foods. Since the country lives off the land, a majority of their fare consists of earthy foods such as potatoes, plantains, yams, and most importantly, rice! You can't have a Haitian meal without rice. It's one of our sacred staples. I admit, some of our meals, especially in how it's prepared, isn't necessarily an easy 1, 2 step process like most recipes out there like to market, but oh my goodness, the time put into it can defintely be worth it! Unlike other Caribbean foods, Haiti has it's own style and distinctive flavor. Whether you've had Haitian food before, or whether it's your first time, I hope this website will bring a new perspective on Haitian food in general. My goal here is to introduce to you some of my favorite Haitian dishes that I grew up on and continue to have on occasion. I am not a culinary artist but I do have a passion for food. The Haitian dishes I present are takes from what I learned from family and friends. I'm also the type of person who loves to experiment with all types of cultural foods. A few of my favorites include Italian, Chinese, and Greek foods. So in addition to these Haitian recipes, I also include various recipes of my own as well as my personal take on other cultural dishes.
