75 Mins What's New in Db2 11.5.8

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Have you been checking out the Db2 Aha! Roadmap? (@
http://ibm.biz/Data-and-AI-Roadmaps ) Are you excited to see some of the new
capabilities slated for 1H this year? The Show's opening monologue will start
with an description of the v11.5.8 continuous delivery model, multi-platform &
container-only installs and the new mod/fix pack numbering scheme. After that we
will have a deep dive into the Top 10 (or so) key enhancements on the v11.5.8

75 Mins A Row's Life

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rows in a DB2 z/OS database get mauled and moved and wholly and partially
duplicated. There are different ways to find them and different surroundings.
And most DBAs find they need to understand these transformations thoroughly to
manage performance and recovery and even security. In this presentation, we take
a light-hearted view of one row's life to emphasize some of the internals of DB2
on the z/OS platform.

75 Mins Db2 UDFs : Beyond the Basics

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Db2 User Defined Functions (UDFs) are a largely ignored tool in the developer's
armoury, providing exciting and in some cases unique capabilities. This
presentation will go beyond creating simple UDFs to look at more complex use
cases and capabilities. A particular focus will be on table UDFs and why they
sometimes are better than stored procedures.

Replay A Db2 Security Primer

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Security demands continue to grow and you need to be aware of all the tools and
capabilities that Db2 provides you in this area. This session provides a review
of the Db2 security landscape for those new to Db2 and to grizzled veterans. We
will look at the various features and functions available across the four
primary security domains: authentication ; authorization ; auditing ; and
encryption. Along the way ; we will discover a couple of potential "gotchas" and
some lesser known aspects of Db2 security. Greg Stager

Replay Db2 Warehouse Reference Architectures for X86 & Power

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We are announcing two new Reference Architectures which are designed to optimize
Db2 for high end - petabyte scale - warehouse/OLAP workloads. These reference
architectures are called "Db2 Warehouse Reference Architecture for X86" and "Db2
Warehouse Reference Architecture for Power" and are designed to be on-premises
follow-ons to our Db2-based analytic appliances (PDOA and IIAS). In this session
we will review the next generation of Db2-based platforms for warehouse/analytic
workloads and drill down into the architecture and other details of these two
new offerings.. Les King

Replay Db2 pureScale on AWS - The New Experience

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With the availability of Db2 pureScale on AWS as a self-managed service, not
only does it continue to provide the same value propositions as in on-premise
deployments, it opens up many other opportunities. This session introduces the
new revolutionary journey, unveils the added benefits, covers the new use cases
that break the traditional "time-barrier" in on-premises deployments and
drastically reduces the total cost of ownership. The session wraps up with a
sneak peek at the next phase of enhancement in this AWS journey as well as the
path on other public clouds. Alan Lee

Replay Db2 Click-2-Containerize

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Deploying an existing Db2 to OpenShift or Cloud Pak for Data usually involves
some form of export and import and a lot of work! Rather than you having to do
all of the hard work, we introduced the Click to Containerize tool to help you
move your on premise Db2 Linux database directly to the Cloud - with no
exporting of data! A lot has changed in the last year and Click to Containerize
Version 2 is now in technical preview! This session will take you through the
new enhancements to the IBM Db2 C2C program and how it can help modernize your
Db2 databases quickly and efficiently! George Baklarz

Replay Temporary Tables in DB2 SQL. DGTT and CGTT and more. How to use
effectively. Lessons learned!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The SQL concept of 'temporary tables' allows for creation of powerful SQL.
Understanding the different types of temporary tables will allow the end-user
the option to create useful SQL that may be relatively simpler to understand and
allows great flexibility. The presentation will attempt to clearly drive home
the difference between DGTT and CGTT. I will share the experience of how a
simple DGTT was used in a new high-volume transaction and cost was relatively
high. Switching to CGTT fantastically reduced cost! Brian Laube, Manulife

Replay Db2 13 for z/OS Technical Overview

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The purpose of this presentation is to introduce the new migration process for
the new Db2 13 for z/OS release. The Db2 13 release migration process is
significantly different from any previous Db2 release migration. The changes
are, in fact, revolutionary. We will detail the Db2 12 to Db2 13 migration
process, the Db2 13 Installation process, and go into details regarding
application compatibility and the Continuous Delivery process as it relates to
Db2 13. Each release brings new migration processes and challenges we will
detail the nuts and bolts of the significant Db2 13 process and procedure
changes. Robert Catterall, IBM

FAQS

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FAQ 1: I'm having trouble joining.
ANS 1: It's rare, but sometimes firewalls get in the way. For solutions, visit
Citrix Firewalls

FAQ 2: Can I get a PDF copy of the slides?
ANS 2: We often make the slide deck available for download, but it is up to the
presenter. We protect the intellectual property of our guests.

FAQ 3: Why is the show called The Db2Night Show when the events are held during
the day?
ANS 3: Like many late night TV Shows, recordings actually occur during the
daytime with live studio audiences. How many of you would get out of bed at 11pm
to watch DB2 on TV?

FAQ 4: The show recordings occur during US time zones. What about those of us in
Europe and Australia?
ANS 4: Our challenge is finding show guests. We often have European speakers;
our show time is late afternoon for them. For other parts of the world, this can
be tricky.
