LIVING ON THE EDGE

Welcome to the new website of the Friends of the Bluff and the Barwon Bluff
Marine Sanctuary. This is a work in progress so if you find any omissions or
errors please let us know. If you are a regular user of the old website and
would like a working copy of this version contact us for a CD version. We will
gradually transfer and update content but it will take time!

The Barwon Heads Bluff and surrounds is a special place. It is a place where the
Barwon River enters the cool waters of Bass Strait and the Southern Ocean. It is
a place where tides and waves have shaped the rocks over time and created a wide
diversity of places for animals and plants to live.

To find an Elephant Snail hidden beneath a rock, to watch the kelp sway back and
forth with the waves, or to explore the magic gardens in the rockpools is to
glimpse the beauty, complexity and uniqueness of the Barwon Bluff Marine
Sanctuary.

HELP PROTECT HOODED PLOVERS

BirdLife Australia is looking for volunteers who have some free time over the
holidays to help protect Hooded Plover chicks on local beaches. We have a 12 day
old chick at 8W Ocean Grove and two 4 day old chicks at 40W Barwon Heads.

If you can spare two – three hours a day to spend on the beach talking with
beach users, raising awareness & reminding dog walkers to leash their dogs,
please contact us!

Now is the time we need you most!
