CAPC’s pain management unit covers which patients are appropriate to consider for opioid therapy, how to assess risk for substance use disorder, and how to safely prescribe, monitor, and document opioid therapy in alignment with the Federation of State Medical Boards prescribing guidelines. CAPC DESIGNATION Take all 14 courses in this unit to achieve CAPC Designation status in pain management. Designation can be added to your performance file or resume to indicate comprehensive training in pain management and safe opioid prescribing for patients with serious illness. START COURSE Course 7: Prescribing Short-Acting Opioids: Four Case Studies Course 7 of 14 Four indications for using short-acting opioids. START COURSE Course 8: Monitoring for Opioid Efficacy, Side Effects, and Substance Use Disorder Course 8 of 14 Ongoing evaluation of opioid benefits, risks, and side effects for the patient with serious illness.
