ABOUT US Health Information System Program (HISP) South Sudan is an indigenous not-for-profit, non-political, non-denominational, non-governmental organization formed in January 2019 by South Sudanese professionals to contribute to the nation’s development. WHY HISP SOUTH SUDAN WAS FORMED? HISP South Sudan’s formation was motivated by numerous reasons. First, the longest civil war’s effects have left South Sudanese in extreme poverty. Secondly, many development interventions have been external to the local context leaving behind a people that hardly changed. Thirdly, given resource constraints, humanitarian support has dismally improved people’s livelihoods. Finally, many local organizations present capacity gaps in innovative approaches to develop enthusiasm to transparently use scarce resources to uphold accountability and strengthen self-development. MAKE A CHANGE South Sudan is the world’s youngest nation with the longest civil war history. Since its independence in 2011, the country has suffered severe droughts (2011, 2015) and floods (2014, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022), resulting in high casualties, displacements, and loss of livestock — severely impacting people’s livelihoods. South Sudan remains in a severe humanitarian crisis. Its socio-economic transformation will require collaborative efforts. You can support HISP South Sudan’s effort by financing small and community-wide projects. You can also volunteer to fundraise for our work, share your skills with our team, learn new skills and cultures, and make new friends. OUR SERVICES HEALTH SYSTEM STRENGTHENING HISP South Sudan contributes towards improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the South Sudan Ministry of Health by strengthening the six building blocks of a system defined by WHO.
