ADVANCING RESEARCH THROUGH INNOVATION AND COLLABORATION

Work with usLearn about our centerView publications

The George M. O'Brien Kidney National Resource Center at the University of
Michigan (MKTC) is dedicated to accelerating advancements in kidney disease
research by providing kidney researchers with specialized resources, tools,
technologies, services, and expertise beyond those typically available in an
individual lab or institutional core. We strive to improve the lives of patients
with kidney diseases through our state-of-the-art facilities, cutting-edge
technologies, and collaborative approach.

Our center, funded the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney
Diseases (NIDDK), is a member of the George M. O'Brien Kidney Resource Alliance
(OKRA) consortium.

Discover

OUR INNOVATIVE APPROACH

We utilize a three-pronged approach to support all basic and patient-oriented
kidney research investigators.

MOLECULAR
INVESTIGATION

We enable investigators to investigate the molecular causes and endpoints of
acute and chronic kidney diseases.

MODERN SYSTEMS
BIOLOGY APPROACHES

We disseminate and support the most modern and powerful systems biological
approaches for identifying novel biomarkers and targets for diagnosis and
treatment of kidney diseases.

ANALYSIS
AND INTEGRATION

Our expert analysis and integration of cohort and systems data through
sophisticated bioinformatics and database integration help identify specific
pathways and targets for treatments.

RESEARCH CORES AND SERVICES

ADMINISTRATIVE CORE
(AC)

Coordinate activities, distribute resources, and assess operations to support
the Center's goals and objectives. Through an ongoing review process, we ensure
the effectiveness and advancement of kidney research.

APPLIED SYSTEMS BIOLOGY CORE (ASBC)

Provide expert consulting services for data mining genome-wide renal data sets
and unique sets of tools to assist in bridging the gap between deep biological
and clinical understanding with large-scale molecular and clinical data sets.

DATA ANALYTIC SERVICES CORE (DASC)

Enhance the understanding of complex kidney diseases and the multi-scalar data
sets that accompany systems-biology approaches to their functional implications
regarding kidney disease development, diagnosis, progression and therapeutic
potential.

RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT CORE (RDC)

Develop a unified platform and methods to integrate multidimensional data,
cohort selection and clinical trial design.

GET STARTED

To get started, please fill out our Request for sevices or training form.
One of our staff will respond within 5-7 business days.

1-HOUR CONSULTAION

Your request will be reviewed. For projects, a consultation will be scheduled to
review the project/experimental design and quote.

EVALUATION

We will evaluate your project to determine resources and cost.

PLEASE NOTE: Highest priority for services is given to investigators a) who are
conducting kidney-related research that is federally funded or b) those funded
by DCC Pilot and Feasibility grants, or c) to early-career investigators who are
starting careers in kidney research but who may not have yet obtained funding.
The next highest priority is given to researchers who are conducting research in
kidney disease supported by non-federal agencies or are conducting unfunded
research to support the submission of federal grant applications.
