Poor nutrition and diet are a major health problem that affects every part of
the body, including the brain. In fact, it is among the top risk factors for
dementia. With food as medicine becoming an important concept, this course
provides strategies to assess diet quality and use that information to help
individuals make healthy dietary modifications to build cognitive resilience.

Learning Objectives: 

 * List 6 or more modifiable risk factors for dementia
 * Summarize the link between nutrition and dementia
 * Identify effective interventions and strategies to address nutrition and a
   special focus on adults 45+ years
 * Identify special considerations for high-risk populations


EXPERT PRESENTER



Dr. Nancy Isenberg is the Medical Director of the Center for Healthy Aging at
the Swedish Neuroscience Institute and leads the Cognitive Care Group within
Providence Health & Services. She has over 25 years of experience in the medical
care of people living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. She also
co-directs Project ECHO Dementia, a state funded telehealth clinic developed to
scale Dementia Capable Care in Primary Care, promote health equity through early
detection, prevention, and comprehensive care programs, and with a specific
focus on rural and underserved areas. She received an Age-Friendly Innovation
Award to Pilot Project ECHO Dementia in Alaska in 2022. 

She obtained her medical degree, and Master of Public Health from Columbia
College of Physicians and Surgeons and School of Public Health. She completed
residency training at the Neurological Institute, Columbia Medical Center, and a
research fellowship in Neuropsychiatry and Behavioral Neurology at Cornell
Medical Center. She has published multiple peer reviewed research articles and
book chapters on cognitive neurology and brain health and lectured widely on the
Neuroscience of Compassion and Mindfulness. Dr. Isenberg is also board certified
in lifestyle medicine and committed to the programmatic development and
implementation of care services which incorporate the latest evidence-based
science of longevity and brain health.
