Man, I am so impressed by what transpired here on this album. Unlike my prior impressions of what modern pop country has become, this project is one that has so much emotional depth, intriguing lyrical themes and just awesome performances all around. As a casual to Bryan’s music, I just think a decently accessible country artist that embrace’s elements of heartland rock and folk in a way that’s tasteful certainly makes these songs beautiful. The instrumentation is crisp yet not too overblown to really give Bryan the room he needs to captivate with his impassioned vocal performances and stellar songwriting. To me it’s intimate and incredibly raw with emotion. I’m just imagining seeing this guy performing live, casually sitting on a stool with a guitar and lightly puffing on a cigaratte in between songs. These tracks surely resonate in a way that can convert even the biggest country music hater to a steady appreciating bystander. It’s a great record that has me looking forward to more. Also, great music for the current autumn season. But this record grew on me and definitely stands as his best project in my eyes. I think the stellar production here really compliments his garbled and often lumbering flows, of which typically don’t appeal to me as much as his contemporaries. It finally clicks for me and I thoroughly enjoyed this project. His sound here is more diverse yet accessible, with also some of the catchiest samples and lyrics I’ve heard to date from the dude. I also find his bars to be the most clever and compelling that I’ve ever heard in his music. A combination of great instrumentals and focused yet expressive performances make this among his best in my book. It honestly deserves all the hype that it rightfully gets. It’s a plunderphonics and sampledelia essential, one that masterfully incorporates all of its samples into expertly composed arrangements. Vocal sections are chopped, manipulated and repurposed in ways that are fresh and new. These rhythms are incredibly groovy, danceable and instill a sense of nostalgia whenever I listen to these tracks. And while this project is technically a concept record with a narrative surrounding a long lost love story, I find that understanding its message isn’t necessary to get the full enjoyment here. The production is THAT good to feel like your own interpretation of life and its many ups and downs in an extravagant sonic fashion. It’s one of those must-listens that I highly highly recommend. Also shoutout @s1eepmask for spurning this revisit, a definitive classic. JPEGMAFIA • Album NO ONE TOLD ME THIS IS THE REAL VERSION starstarstarstarstar star star star star star star star star star star A few months ago I listened to JPEGMAFIA’s “LP!” and absolutely loved it. I didn’t realize it wasn’t the full project though, and after going through “LP! (OFFLINE!)”, I see what I was missing. This is seriously one of the best albums I’ve ever heard and I can’t stop playing it over and over, front to back. Songs like “Trust!” and “End Credits!” get me so pumped and ready for the day. On the online version, one of my favorite songs, “REBOUND!” is missing some verses and another one of the best songs here “Hazard Duty Pay!” is left off entirely. I assume it’s because Mr. Mafia uses tons of crazy samples and can’t get the rights for all of them. Also several of the songs are just renamed for some reason. In my opinion, the central masterpiece of this album has to be “The GHOST of RANKING DREAD!”. Every time I hear it, it’s like ascending to Heaven. Easily one of the most creative songs I’ve ever heard from Peggy and the ending goes insanely fucking hard (max volume recommended). Peggy is quickly becoming one of my favorite producers in all of hip-hop. His work on “We Buy Diabetic Test Strips” and “Scaring the Hoes” this year was impressive beyond words and I can’t wait to see what he does next. Hopefully we’ll see him work more with Danny and Billy and maybe even Freddie Gibbs. Maybe not as much with its own self, but more with all the hype and praise that everyone bathed this record in. It was made out to be some godly masterpiece of all time. But as it turned out, it was nowhere near that. In fact, it almost hit the mark of average. Almost. Firstly, Swift’s intention of re-recording her earlier work, to regain control, might seem like a noble cause and all that. But if you look at such effort non-biasly, stuff like that looks if not pathetic - at least like a missed opportunity. Plus it’s the main reason this album lacks freshness and impact of the original (which, in its own right, was more meh, than not). Yeah, doubling the playlist might be a smart idea, but still 30 fucking tracks? That’s just lol. One thing is certain, the production quality had improved. Well, duh. It got a decade of upgrade applied, no need to expect any less. Yet, just because it sounds a bit more polished, it don’t mean it can breathe new life into the older songs. It's like putting a new coat of paint on a dull wall, in a long run - questionable idea. And if this, supposedly bigger and better, version of the older album feels redundant and unnecessary enough already, one must not forget that Taylor’s talent as a songwriter and performer is far from ideal to begin with. No matter how widely it may be recognised as divine. One aspect about her songs that makes em at least not annoying is truthfulness. No matter how basic and unpolished her vocal abilities might sound, she can captivate with her amateur poetry-like lyrics, and you believe most of the things she says / sings. After all, she been doing same kind of music for over a decade, and hasn’t shown any progress or development. That even farther establishes this “re-recording” - pointless, for it doesn’t really do enough to showcase her growth and evolution as an artist. It's one major step backward in her discography, lacking the excitement and innovation that I have come to expect from it. Overall, this album simply doesn't live up to the hype and leaves much to be desired. Surely, Swift may have a massive following, but there’s always big herds of sheep following one person, so it shouldn’t be a surprise. This particular release of hers only serves as a reminder that even the most celebrated artists can produce underwhelming stuff. Especially her bizarre insistence on being ignorant in choosing to discriminate against some who probably have listened to some of her music. She sounds very off beat on every song I've heard her on and like she just learned how to rap that day. I don't get the appeal besides her ignorant and erratic behavior that seems to be crammed down everyone's throat online whether you want to see it or not. But besides that her music sounds like if AI tried to create what they thought a modern female rapper is supposed to sound like. I see her fifteen minutes of fame being up soon unless she makes some drastic changes to her music and stops relying so heavily on tasteless shock value for attention. person ORANGESKIES314 favorite chat 19 likes, 8 comments forum reply Make this review public to share SHARE TO TWITTER SHARE TO FACEBOOK link COPY LINK TRENDING LISTS person person person person person person QUEER EXCELLENCE Openly queer artists that I would consider great favorite chat 31 likes, 23 comments forum reply Make this list public to share SHARE TO TWITTER SHARE TO FACEBOOK link COPY LINK person person person album person album GIVE ME UR UNDERGROUND UNDERGROUND RECCS!!!!
