Welcome back, Friends! Before we get into the High Five, we wanted to share
information on tomorrow’s postal workers rallies. Stand with USPS workers and
allies in Waterloo (11 AM) and Des Moines (4 PM) as the future of the People's
Post Office is at stake.

Now, let’s get into today’s top stories:

1. DEBATE INCOMING: The first vice presidential debate between Gov. Tim Walz and
Sen. JD Vance begins tomorrow night at 8 PM CT. Similar to the previous
presidential debate, there will be no studio audience; however, the microphones
will not be routinely muted. The debate will be hosted by CBS News, available on
several of the main broadcast channels, and viewable online here.

2. TRUMP DENIES CLIMATE CHANGE: The former MAGA President is once again
spreading disinformation, labeling climate change a “scam” following Hurricane
Helene. The tragic hurricane has caused over 100 deaths and according to the
head of FEMA, was made worse because of “global heating.”

3. ARIZONA SERVES AS A WARNING: Arizona’s private school voucher program has
blown a hole in their state budget, forcing hundreds of millions in budget cuts
and causing great harm to state programs. This is an unfortunate warning for our
state, as the true cost of Iowa vouchers has also far outpaced the previous
projected budget.

4. LEGISLATIVE CANDIDATE FORUMS ANNOUNCED: Starting tomorrow, disability rights
groups will be hosting various legislative candidate forums throughout the
state. The first event will be tomorrow at 6 PM in Council Bluffs. You can find
more information on the forums focusing on disability policy here.

5. OPINION OF THE DAY: Today we’re highlighting the new editorial from The Des
Moines Register staff holding MAGA Republicans accountable for taking away
Iowans’ reproductive freedom. “The law is dehumanizing… Iowa Republicans’
actions have defied Iowans’ views on abortion and denied Iowans
self-determination.”

Thanks for reading and we’ll be back tomorrow with the High Five.
