Earlier, I know that Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet program that’s used to organize, analyze, and report on large amounts of data. But while learning this course I was amazed how Excel quickly make many calculations that would take a lot longer if done manually. The functions like SUM, PROPER, CONCATENATE, SUBSTITUTE and many more helps alot. We can also create 3D graphs and diagrams within seconds. Learning Excel was fun. REPORT OF INDUCTION PROGRAMME First day (10 July 2024) Today was our first day at college, and we needed to arrive at the gurdwara sahib by 9 am. After the Ardas, we received parsad and proceeded to langar. The start of the day was very peaceful. Next, we headed to the auditorium to mark our attendance and find our seats. The induction program began with a warm welcome to all freshers by our principal and director. Additionally, alumni shared their experiences at GNE and their life journeys. We learned a lot about the college. Overall, the first day was as great as I had hoped. Second Day (11 July 2024) The second day began with the chanting of the Mul Mantra and Gayatri Mantra. Following that our speaker, Mr. Arvind Dhingra “Chairman of the Technical Activities Committee” arrived. He introduced us to various committees within the college, including SCIE (Student Chapter of the Institution of Engineering), ISTE (Indian Society for Technical Education), E2S2 (Electrical Engineering Staff and Students), SAE India, and BAJA. Mr. Dhingra also shared insights on the three P’s of success: Passion, Persistence, and Patience. Additionally, he organized games to engage both the girls and boys. Third Day (12 July 2024) The third day was expected to be interesting as it involved interacting with our seniors. The first lecture covered Excel and ChatGPT. We learned the basics of Excel and how ChatGPT works. The lecture was very informative and peers shared insights about their first-year experiences including dos and don’ts. The second lecture focused on math, specifically the basics of calculus, including differentiation, integration, and trigonometry. Everyone found it easy since the topics were already familiar. Forth Day (15 July 2024) Today was auditorium day starting with the chanting of the Mul Mantra. Randhir Sir then guided us on creating and using a GitHub profile. Mr. Pyare Lal Garg was the main speaker. His confidence and storytelling were impressive. He shared his life stories, experiences, and remarkable poetry, which everyone enjoyed. The lecture was very inspiring. The next lecture was given by the youthful speaker Mr. Sony Garg. He began with a story about a character named Shubhi who wanted a balloon emphasizing that we shouldn’t judge others by their caste, color, or creed. His slogan “One Two Ka Four” involved everyone participating with hand gestures. He outlined key points for the four years of a BTech program: 1. Learn 2. Enquire 3. Future 4. Explore The lecture was memorable and left a strong impression on me and I found him to be a great personality. In the last lecture by our senior Panchan Jai Singh Gill Sir, he began by walking in from the back of the auditorium. He provided us with valuable insights on how to read a person’s body language, including how to distinguish between a genuine smile and a fake one. Fifth Day (16 July 2024) Today, we did something really interesting. We had an English literature quiz in teams of two. It was a lot of fun. Sixth Day (17 July 2024) Today started with a math lecture by Professor S Mehra. He began by reviewing the basic identities of integration and types of integration, including substitution and completing the square, all other topics which we’ve studied in the 12th class. He demonstrated several problems to refresh our memory and then gave us some questions to solve. The questions were easy since the topic is already familiar. The second lecture was on Universal Human Values (UHV), a completely new subject for me. Professor Rishi Kapoor’s teaching style is very interesting. He covers topics such as human values and ethics, aspirations and how to fulfill them, natural acceptance and acceptance, harmony in society and self, and the importance of understanding in relationships. He engaged us by asking questions, and we answered by raising our hands. Seventh Day (18 July 2024) Our new day began with the same topic we left off on the previous day in UHV. Professor Rishi reviewed the previous topics and then introduced new ones, covering the difference between self and body, the needs of self and body, gross misunderstanding, types of imagination, and the necessity of value education. He asked random questions, and we answered. I noticed that everyone had different opinions, which amazed me. In our second lecture, we interacted with our peers who gave us a brief description of the Canva app. We learned that Canva is a versatile tool used for editing, creating templates, posters, Instagram posts, presentations, PDFs, and more. We received a tutorial on how to make templates, and everyone created a template on their own. After a 45-minute break, we attended a lecture by Dr. Harwinder Singh, the Associate NCC Officer (ANO). He explained the purpose of joining the NCC, the benefits, the process for joining, and the number of available vacancies. Next, we had a lecture with Jaswinder Singh, a renowned figure who has received the Shiksha Ratan award and invented the Lab on Wheels. His lecture was outstanding, as he imparted extensive knowledge about science and mathematics, emphasizing that mathematics is essential for balancing everything in the world. He also demonstrated how to count the bones in our body and showed us various physics experiments involving induction, mirrors, and lenses. Rohit, a CSE student from our class, partnered with Singh during the entire lecture. Ninth Day (22 July 2024) The first speaker of the day was the respected Dr. S.B. Singh. Unlike many other speakers, he didn’t just come and speak. His approach was unique and engaging. He guided us on how to better understand ourselves by conducting a thoughtful exercise. He instructed us to take a page from our notebook, write down our name, the place where we completed our studies, our percentage in the 12th examination, our address, and pin code. Additionally, he asked us to note our weaknesses and strengths. Dr. Singh then gave us three minutes to envision a dream and write it on the page. After collecting all the pages, he helped us reflect on our hobbies, weaknesses, and strategies for overcoming challenges.
