RAND CORPORATION PROVIDES OBJECTIVE RESEARCH SERVICES AND PUBLIC POLICY ANALYSIS

 * THE UNITED STATES NEEDS A MOONSHOT TO PREVENT EXTREMISM FROM METASTASIZING

   Extremism is like cancer: It will always exist, but ignoring it runs the risk
   that it rears its ugly head, metastasizing throughout the country. The United
   States needs to ensure it has the proper tools to diagnose extremism in its
   earliest stages, and that the agencies tasked with protecting our democracy
   have the capability to get it into, and keep it in, remission.

   Transportation Safety

   Commentary

   ENTER OUTER SPACE AT YOUR OWN RISK?

   Since 2004, federal law has barred most participant safety regulations and
   leaves nearly all issues of safety up to the discretion of the company
   providing the service. It's time to allow the moratorium on regulation to
   expire and allow the development of safety standards, led by the FAA.

   Terrorism Financing

   Report

   COUNTERING VIOLENT NONSTATE ACTOR FINANCING

   How do violent nonstate actors finance their operations? What do they use
   this financing for? And what can the U.S. Army do to disrupt these efforts?

 *
   Arctic Region

   Commentary

   WHAT IS NEXT FOR THE ARCTIC COUNCIL IN THE WAKE OF RUSSIAN RULE?

   Norway recently took over chairmanship of the Arctic Council from Russia
   under conditions never before experienced by the organization in its 27-year
   history. Despite the current uncertainties, there could be ways to move past
   the stalemate between Russia and the other council members.

 *
   LGBTQ+ Populations

   Commentary

   HOW FLORIDA'S EXPANSION OF 'DON'T SAY GAY' LAW WILL HURT STUDENTS AND
   TEACHERS ACROSS THE UNITED STATES

   Policies restricting discussion of LGBTQ+ issues and representation of LGBTQ+
   individuals are likely to make schools less welcoming to the nation's
   estimated 2 million LGBTQ+ youth. Policymakers should develop policies that
   cultivate learning and work environments where students and educators of all
   backgrounds feel safe and valued.

   RUSSIA'S WAR IN UKRAINE: INSIGHTS FROM RAND

   A vast body of previously published RAND research—as well as real-time
   insights from RAND experts—sheds light on important issues related to
   Russia's attack against Ukraine. These include Russia's strategy and military
   capabilities, the Ukrainian resistance, and how to address the refugee
   crisis.

 * Project

   COUNTERING TRUTH DECAY

   “Truth Decay,” the diminishing role of facts in public life, poses a threat
   to evidence-based policymaking and to American democracy. RAND is studying
   this phenomenon to learn more about its causes, consequences, and potential
   solutions.

 * Commentary

   BIDEN HOPES FOR VIETNAM BREAKTHROUGH

   The United States wants to intensify U.S.-Vietnam ties, because the two
   countries share long-term strategic interests. Vietnam seems perfectly fine
   with things dragging on for years in their current state, avoiding a final
   decision, or even getting cold feet in the end. Washington would be wise to
   manage expectations for now.

 * Report

   PREVENTING DOMESTIC ABUSE IN THE U.S. ARMED FORCES

   Domestic abuse has severe consequences for service members, their families,
   and, potentially, unit readiness. What strategies could help prevent domestic
   abuse before it occurs and help the military with communication to reach
   individuals who might have risk factors for domestic abuse?

QUOTED

 * Yesterday's segregation is today's wealth gap. We like to pretend that we
   live in a race-neutral, merit-based society now, that this is all in the
   past, but you can't erase history. It shows up in our wealth. For many, it
   shows up in the lack of wealth.

 * Victory can provoke a backlash from the losers, or balancing behavior from
   other states that help to constrain the victor. Battlefield gains could be
   offset by strategic, diplomatic, political, or economic losses in other
   areas. Policymakers have to think about those larger issues when considering
   what a great power war would mean.
