Join us at the 2024 xFoundry Xplore Summit, where knowledge converges with
innovation. Engage in discussions with tech leaders in AI, healthcare, and
neuroscience; connect with political influencers; and celebrate the launch of
xFoundry@UMD.

Explore the new programs at xFoundry@UMD and learn about the grand challenge we
will be tackling during our first competition, and vote on the topic for our
second.

Food and drinks will be provided.

About xFoundry Xperience

Our 15-month multidisciplinary program is designed for passionate students who
want to make positive change.

Xperience takes students through the founder's mindset where they'll build upon
skills of resilience, adaptability, and risk tolerance, all while solving grand
challenges.


The Inaugural 2025 Xperience Competition

Throughout Xperience, student teams will design their solution and pitch for the
grand prize in Spring 2025. The topic for this year’s competition is School
Safety, chosen by UMD students.

School safety challenge: Rapid detection and notification of an active threat on
a school campus.
There have been 1154 school shootings since 2013. This resulted in 384 deaths
and 827 injuries.

Rising Threat: The surge in school shootings
There is an annual average of 51 school shootings, more than double the average
between 2008 and 2012. The rate of school shootings have been more than doubled
since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

Solution goals
>> Software-based active shooter detection and mitigation
>> Ensure accurate notification to key members of command chain and students
>> Make system accessible to all schools, everywhere


Introducing xFoundry@UMD

The Xplore Summit marks the launch of xFoundry@UMD, a new initiative launching
out of the E.A. Fernandez IDEA Factory at the University of Maryland.
xFoundry@UMD promotes technology innovations and advancements through
collaborations with every academic discipline on campus by fostering a
multidisciplinary guided curriculum with annual targeted competitions designed
to address societal challenges.
