WHAT A YEAR FOR MALAWIANS

Dec 15, 2023
Written By Kevin Jones

This Christmas there are no food banks, no toy drives and no water for these
people.

If you’re reading this, it probably indicates your own propensity in exercising
kindness and compassion to others and we both thank and applaud you for that.
There is a real paradox to be found in the NGO / charity sector which while
heavily weighted towards serving others, is also fiercely competitive. The
resources are finite and tens of thousands of organizations are fishing in the
same pool of compassion and good will. Statistics show that most of the giving
is stimulated by disaster, calamity, and the need for urgent relief while the
true or sustainable benefits (value for money if you like) come through the
development and education of the less fortunate.

People are obviously drawn to causes close to home and heart such as healthcare,
child poverty or local amenities and rightly so, it’s part of our social duty.
Today we would ask, if you have not already supported Compact this year or have
any spare capacity at the close of 2023 consider this: On top of the regular
endemic issues 2022/23 saw Malawi experience a cholera outbreak, a cyclone, 44%
currency devaluation in November and has an inflation rate of 29%. This sadly
seems perpetual but is not something that will stop Compact!

God bless you and Merry Christmas.

TESTIMONIAL

Following the recent Malawi Info Evening in Vancouver, one couple responded with
financial support and the following message:

We were very impressed when we learned how much Compact Resource Foundation had
accomplished in just a few years since its inception. It was remarkable that
these achievements were made with just a small team of dedicated
volunteers. This team has efficiently delivered on some ambitious goals! They
have created deep relationships with Malawians to understand their culture and
priorities so that, together in partnership with local communities, Compact has
established some tangible access to safe drinking water and made gains toward
improving food security. We were inspired to help and see how much more Compact
can accomplish.
