ORCID IDS AT SPRINGER NATURE

Attach your identity to your research and receive recognition for your work

WHAT IS ORCID?

ORCID is a non-profit organization that provides researchers with a unique
digital identifier. These identifiers can be used by editors, funding agencies,
publishers, and institutions to reliably identify individuals in the same way
that ISBNs and DOIs identify books and articles. Thus the risk of confusing your
identity with another researcher with the same name is eliminated. The ORCID
website provides researchers with a page where your comprehensive research
activity can be stored.

Springer Nature collaborates with the ORCID organization to ensure that your
research contributions (as authors and peer reviewers) are correctly attributed
to you.

HOW CAN I GET AN ORCID ID?

 * Registration is free at orcid.org/register. It takes less than a minute.
 * You register only once and can use your ORCID iD permanently.

Upon registration, you will get an ORCID record that you can control in terms
of  content and decide who will be able to see it.

HOW CAN I USE THE ORCID ID AS AN AUTHOR?

 * You can include your ORCID iD in our manuscript submission systems. If
needed, you can also register for the iD during the submission process.
 * Your ORCID iD will be displayed on the published work.
 * Sharing your ORCID record makes it easier to draw attention to your work and
show your academic track record in a concise format. It will help improve the
discoverability of your research and support collaboration within the
   research community.

Following a successful trial in 2017 to mandate ORCID identifiers for
corresponding authors to 46 Springer Nature journals (including 14
Nature-branded journals, 10 BMC journals and 22 Springer journals), we are happy
to support journals that wish to apply a mandate at submission or publication.

HOW DO I ADD MY PEER REVIEWS TO MY ORCID RECORD?

Springer Nature is committed to recognizing the valuable and critical role
performed by peer reviewers. We fully support verifying and crediting your
review activity directly from our manuscript submission systems to ORCID.

 * When you submit your review you will be given the chance to opt-in to this
   service.
 * If you choose to opt-in, you will be asked to log-in to your ORCID account.
If you do not already have an ORCID account you can create one.
 * After you successfully log in to ORCID, Springer Nature will transfer
verification of your review activity to ORCiD, but not the review itself.
Your review activity will be shown on your ORCiD profile. Only the year of
the review and the journal (or book series) title will be shown.
 * You will be asked to opt in or out for every review, however reviews of
multiple revisions of the same manuscript will show as a single review
activity on ORCID, with the year of the most recent review.
 * The record may be deleted at any time by contacting ORCiD directly.
 * Springer Nature cannot upload verification of past reviews to ORCID.
