AIR QUALITY ALERT ISSUED FOR NYC FRIDAY DUE TO OZONE LEVELS

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has issued an
air quality advisory for New York City. The advisory is in effect on Friday,

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The New York State Department of Environmental
Conservation (DEC) has issued an air quality advisory for New York City and
surrounding areas.

The advisory is in effect on Friday, from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m.

The advisory is put into effect when air quality levels in outdoor air are
predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for ozone, a
pollutant that frequently affects Staten Island during high-heat days.



The New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals limit
strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health
effects.

People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of
pollutants include the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory
problems such as asthma or heart disease.
