SMARTFLYER

Smartflyer is a proof-of-concept of an electrically driven aircraft for General
Aviation to transport 4 persons. Flying in the smartflyer will be very
comfortable with an extremely low noise level in the cabin. There will be no
need to wear headsets for a normal conversation in the cabin.

Today’s battery capacities are not good enough for extended flights. A range
extender, which is an internal combustion engine who drives a generator charges
the batteries during cruise. The smartflyer will have a range of more than 400
NM (750 km).

OUR MISSION

Aviation is on the threshold of a new era. Until today, combustion and jet
engines have dominated as propulsion systems. In the future, electric motors
will be used in certain areas of aviation. Electric motors are not only
emission-free, light and powerful, but also extremely reliable due to their
simple design.

The storage of electrical energy is not yet powerful enough to perform longer
flights. We are still dependent on fossil fuels. The combination of electric
motor and energy generation from combustion engine in a hybrid-electric
powertrain is optimally implemented in the smartflyer. In the serial hybrid
powertrain, there is no mechanical connection from the combustion engine to the
propeller. The range extender module in the aircraft nose can simply be replaced
by other energy sources. The unique aircraft concept of smartflyer allows the
change from battery powered to range extender within 15 minutes, without special
knowledge.

ABOUT US

A small team of professionals is working on the project with a lot of enthusiasm
and ambition.
smartflyer ltd. develops an electric aircraft with range extender. The prototype
will take to the air for the first time in 2025 and will be operated purely
electrically in the airport area. This will massively reduce noise emissions. In
cruising flight, a range extender helps to achieve a range of 800 km. The small
combustion engine runs in the optimum range, reducing CO2 emissions by 50%. The
company smartflyer ltd. was founded in April 2016 with the target to build
electric aircraft.
