EXPERIENCE INCLUSION WITH SPECIAL OLYMPICS MARYLAND

Special Olympics is founded on the belief that people with intellectual
disabilities can, with proper instruction and encouragement, learn, enjoy, and
benefit from participation in individual and team sports. These must be adapted
only as necessary to meet the needs of those with mental and physical
limitations. Special Olympics believes that consistent training is indispensable
to the development of an individual’s sports skills. In addition, competition
among those of equal abilities is the most appropriate means of testing these
skills, measuring progress, and providing incentives for personal growth.

MISSION & PURPOSE

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and
athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults
with intellectual disabilities. This gives them continuing opportunities to
develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in
a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special
Olympics athletes, and the community. Our purpose is through sport, creating a
world where opportunity is not limited by disability.

2025 POLAR BEAR PLUNGE



For the past 28 years, thousands of plungers have jumped into the icy waters of
the Chesapeake Bay all in support of Special Olympics Maryland. Join us this
year for the 2025 MSP Polar Bear Plunge!

2025 DEEP CREEK DUNK



We are back and ready to BEAR THE COLD! Join us for the 26th Deep Creek Dunk on
Saturday, February 22nd, 2025 at Deep Creek Lake. Join us for a full weekend of
fun with Goosebump, Grapes & Growlers on February 21st.
