INFECTION DISEASE PHYSICIAN

Dr Renjy Nelson FRACP

Dr. Renjy Nelson was born and raised in India. He completed his undergraduate
degree in medicine and post graduate degree (MD General medicine) studied
medicine from Christian Medical College and Hospital, Vellore, India in 2000. He
completed speciality training at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and The Queen
Elizabeth Hospital and obtained his Fellowship in General Medicine and
Infectious Dieases (FRACP) in 2011.

He was appointed Consultant Infectious Diseases at The Royal Adelaide Hospital,
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, South Australia and Lecturer in the School of
Medicine, University of Adelaide in 2011. He continues to be actively involved
in research and his work has been presented at international conferences and
published in prestigious international journals. He has authored a book chapter
in a reputed Textbook. His laboratory project evaluating the susceptibility
patterns of anaerobic organisms over a five-year period was chosen as one of the
best five posters at the national Australasian Society of Infectious Diseases
Conference in 2012.  He has been the principal investigator for South Australia
for a number of clinical trials including one at Burnside Hospital.

He has extensive clinical experience both in India and Australia. In addition,
he has interest in Hospital Infection Control with a particular focus on
surgical site infections, and Animicrobial Stewardship. He has participated and
led various quality improvement projects. He is instrumental in the
establishment of multidisciplinary management of prosthetic joint infections and
infective endocarditis. He is a strong contributor to teaching at a number of
levels, from medical students, junior medical doctors and registrars. He was
awarded the inaugural Professor Richard Ruffin award in excellence in teaching
in 2012. He is an invited speaker to local, national and international
conferences.
