Texas, Florida On Alert For Severe Thunderstorms
A pair of disturbances will fuel severe weather concerns across Texas and
      Florida this afternoon and evening.

A strengthening area of low pressure moving out of the southern Rockies
will send a warm front northward across northern Texas today. This front
will separate a warm, humid air mass moving northward from the Gulf of
Mexico from a cooler, drier air mass moving southward from the northern
Plains and Upper Midwest. The resulting clash of air masses near this warm
front will fuel scattered to widespread severe thunderstorms this
      afternoon and evening.

With plenty of instability to work with and strong winds aloft, the threat
for damaging winds in excess of 60 mph, large hail in excess of 1 inch
diameter and even a few tornadoes will be possible.

The Storm Prediction Center has issued an Enhanced Risk for much of
northern Texas, including the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and Waco.
Surrounding this risk, a Slight Risk has also been issued for cities such
as Abilene and Lufkin, Texas, and Shreveport, La.

Meanwhile, a pool of unseasonably cold air aloft will move over the
Florida Peninsula during the day today. This cold air, when combined with
the heating of the day, will lead to very unstable conditions over
Florida. Thunderstorms are expected to develop during the mid- and
late-afternoon hours and last into the evening and will be capable of
producing large hail in excess of 1 inch in diameter and damaging wind
gusts in excess of 60 mph.

A Tornado Watch is active over parts of central Texas, including Abilene,
      Stephenville and Waco, Texas.

The Storm Prediction Center has issued an Enhanced Risk for east-central
Florida, including Orlando and Melbourne. A larger Slight Risk covers much
of the rest of the Florida Peninsula. This includes cities such as
Gainesville, Hialeah, Fort Lauderdale and Miami.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for much of eastern Florida,
including Gainesville, Orlando, Melbourne and Miami.

Make sure to know the difference between a watch and a warning should they
become issued. A watch means that conditions are favorable for severe
weather to occur and to be on alert for any rapidly changing conditions. A
warning means that severe weather is imminent, and you should act fast to
      remain safe.

The best way to remain safe is to stay prepared and informed about your
local weather. Have a severe weather kit packed with a battery-operated
radio, water and non-perishable food items should you be without power for
long periods of time. Also, check the WeatherBug app frequently for any
updates on today’s severe weather. Remember, “When Thunder Roars, Go
      Indoors!”
