STOP THE QUARRY NOW!

The Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM)  is in the final
stages of permitting a DANGEROUS rock quarry in Belle Mina. Our community must
act NOW if there is any chance of stopping this permit.

TAKE ACTION TODAY
EVERYONE WILL LOSE: OUR FAMILIES WILL PAY THE PRICE
YOUR PROPERTY VALUES/OUR HEALTH ARE AT STAKE

Our families have too much to lose if this quarry is built: rock quarry blasting
and explosives will make property values plummet and businesses close. Blasting
will damage our homes and buildings, our air and water quality will suffer,
sinkholes will appear, and there will be constant explosions.

This rock quarry ultimately threatens the health and safety of our families.

There are two things we can do to save our community.

First, contact the Limestone County Commission, the only local body with the
power to stop this quarry TODAY. Why are they waiting?

Two, contact ADEM and attend the public hearing at 6 P.M., March 7, at Calhoun
Community College in Tanner. (Full details are below.)

WHY WON’T THE LIMESTONE COUNTY COMMISSION HELP?

CONTACT THE COMMISSION TODAY. THERE IS NO TIME TO WAIT!

The Limestone County Commission has the power to save our community but has
refused to act on this issue.

The permitting process could take years, dividing our community and causing
unnecessary worry, anguish, and stress.  However, the Limestone County
Commission can stop the quarry TODAY by adopting measures to regulate quarry
blasting. The Commission can end this issue NOW.

Under Alabama state law, the Commission can adopt measures to limit blasting in
our community with terms and conditions. Call or email your commissioners TODAY
and DEMAND they stop the Belle Mina rock quarry.

Authority to zone county property outside corporate limits of municipality.

(a) The Limestone County Commission may divide any territory at its discretion
within the county, but outside of the corporate limits of any municipality in
the county into business, industrial, and residential zones or districts
including, but not limited to, zones or districts where blasting may be carried
out and the terms and conditions under which blasting may be carried out and may
provide the kind, character, and use of structures and improvements that may be
erected or made within the several zones or districts established and, from time
to time, may rearrange or alter the boundaries of the zones or districts and may
also adopt ordinances as necessary to carry into effect and make effective this
section; provided, however, agricultural and forest property assessed for ad
valorem tax purposes at current use value as defined in Section 40725.1, shall
be zoned as agricultural and forest property.

(b) Any zoning ordinance adopted pursuant to this section may be enforced by the
county commission by an action for injunctive relief in the Circuit Court of
Limestone County.

ADEM PUBLIC HEARING ON MARCH 7 AT 6 PM

We must pack the house and shout to the rafters on March 7 as ADEM comes to town
to create a dog and pony show, pretending to care about our opinions and
community. ADEM is ready to sell out our community and approve all Belle Mina
rock quarry permits. We must show, beyond all doubt, that we are united in our
fight against this rock quarry, and we demand that our public officials do their
duty, heed our call, and protect our families.  We MUST have a show of force at
the ADEM public hearing show.

Public Hearing

Thursday, March 7 • 6:00 P.M.

Calhoun Community College – Decatur Campus:

Health Sciences Building #2, Room #109

6250 Hwy 31 N • Tanner, AL 35671
