Book Title:  And She Was Never the Same Again: A Multigenerational
Memoir by Natasha Pryde Trujillo Ph.D.
Category:  Adult Non-Fiction 18 yrs +,  285 pages
Genre:  Multigenerational Memoir
Publisher:  Violet Echoes Press
Release date:  April, 2024
Content Rating: PG-13: discusses trauma, near-death experiences, grief

“Dr. Trujillo has done an exceptional job of opening her life of grief and loss
for her audience to experience. The intentional nature in which this book is
written provides a welcome comfort of hope. Her words encourage her audience to
look at those ‘isms’ we humans all own and instead of wanting to avoid seeing
them, to look at them and learn how to navigate and accept; especially when it
is too late to share those sentiments when you could have.” —Feathered Quill

Book Description:

And She Was Never the Same Again is about you. It is about your family and your
friends, everyone you’ve ever met, and all the strangers you have yet to meet.

It takes you on a journey of gains and losses that stretch generations,
cultures, identities, and decades of time. It awakens you to the inevitable and
makes you look at things most people want to avoid seeing. It explores
near-death experiences; medical, individual, and intergenerational trauma; the
stigmatized death of a partner; perfectionism; athletics; first loves; and the
gaping holes that become permanent fixtures within us when those we love the
most die.

You will feel, you will learn, you will grown, and you will never be the same
again.

Dr. Trujillo is a counseling and sport psychologist, consultant, educator,
author, and human. Labels don’t make her better or worse-equipped to deal with
inevitable grief throughout life. She’s passionate about the power of
storytelling and wanted to illustrate nuanced ways we cope with grief. Like you,
she’s had losses and decided risking vulnerability may encourage others to
redefine relationships with loss to live more holistic and intentional lives.
She hopes this limited collection of stories can build the realization that
there’s no “right” way to grieve.

Book Description:

What if everything you thought you knew about the world – and yourself – was a
lie? What would you do?

For 17-year-old Callista, growing up in a world stripped of all its color after
the great climate crisis, every day looks the same in her Neighborhood. There
are no other kids her age except for her best friend, Reggie. There are no
events or activities. And there is no leaving. Cal rarely even steps outside her
house except to pick up the month’s worth of dry, rationed food courtesy of the
Government or for her routine trip to the doctor, which always leaves her
feeling groggy and depleted.

And while she knows that she should just accept this life, she can’t help but
wonder if there is something she isn’t being told. From whispered conversations
she overhears of her parents to nightmares that feel more like memories jarring
her awake in the middle of the night, Cal finally decides to find out for
herself if there is something beyond the towering gates of her Neighborhood.
Something that can provide answers.

But what she finds is more shocking than she could have imagined. When a giant
floating object of immense light transports her to an abandoned city, Cal meets
more people her age who also grew up in Neighborhoods. And, like the orb of
light she can suddenly summon with her mind, these other people are also gifted
with special abilities.

Before she can determine what is going on, they are all herded to a special
Academy for the gifted, where they will learn to hone their abilities with other
students just like them.

But as Cal unravels her nightmares, everything she thought she knew about her
former life starts to rip at the seams. And, as she spends more time with her
fellow students in the Academy, she begins to wonder if she really escaped the
Neighborhood at all.

BOOK TOUR – THE DEATH OF DOWNTON TABBY BY MANDY MORTON.

14th Jun 2024 / dianasbookjournal / Leave a comment

I am pleased to be on the Book Tour for The Death of Downton Tabby by Mandy
Morton and I would like to thank the author and Insta Book Tours for the
opportunity to read a Paperback copy of the book

My thoughts…

The Death of Downton Tabby follows Hettie and Tilly who are kept busy solving
crimes and saving the day with their feline detective agency.  This is the
latest in the series of books by Mandy Morton about an unusual detective agency
run by cats!

In this book we follow Hettie & Tilly at the local literary festival that has
murder a-plenty! There are lots of intrigue, suspense and perils along the way.
The characters are  fabulous and it has a great plot.  As well as the gruesome
murders, it’s littered with humour and a wonderful play on words that really
make you laugh, but also some poignant moments that bring a tear to your eye.
The many twists and turns of the plot keep you guessing to the end, as you
experience the many ups and downs of Hettie’s world with her motley crew of
furry friends.  What’s not to like? Great characters, great story, plus all set
in a gentile yet tough and sometimes macabre world.

The Death of Downton Tabby is another  Hetty and Tilly adventure and their
feline detective agency.   It was hilarious, yet gripping, so beautifully and
cleverly written and a thoroughly enjoyable and captivating read from beginning
to end.  This series is different from anything else I’ve read, i.e. all
characters are cats.  If you like a murder mystery with a difference then this
is for you.  I really enjoyed reading this fabulous book and highly recommend
it.

BOOKS ON TOUR – THE GREEK VILLA BY SUE ROBERTS.

7th Jun 2024 / dianasbookjournal / Leave a comment

I am pleased to on the Book Tour for The Greek Villa by Sue Roberts and I would
like to thank Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review the book

Book Description:

Is this villa in Greece a disastrous fixer-upper… or a dream come true for
Claudia?

After receiving a life-changing inheritance from a beloved, quirky older
relative, thirty-two-year-old Claudia has done something wild they would approve
of – she’s bought a run-down villa in Greece! Though she’s never seen it in
person, she’s sure that with a lick of paint, it will be everything she’s ever
dreamed of…

But, arriving at her new home on the gorgeous Greek island of Corfu, Claudia is
met with a shock. The cracks look more like chasms, plants are growing through
the tiled floor, and the view of the sparkling blue sea would be perfect – if
there was a window instead of a hole in the wall.

With the local villagers thinking she’s mad to take on the villa, Claudia panics
she’s made the biggest mistake of her life. Until local builder Dimitri comes to
her rescue… Between his caring nature, his rippling muscles and deep brown eyes,
Claudia can’t believe she’s found her knight in shining armour. And they grow
close over glasses of Greek wine beneath the stars, after long, hot days working
on the villa.

But just when Claudia begins to see a future with Dimitri, his ex-girlfriend
throws a spanner in the works. Though he reassures her that it’s over between
them, Claudia starts to feel like he’s keeping secrets. Then a pipe bursts,
flooding the villa, and all Claudia’s hopes are dashed at once…

Should Claudia call it quits and head back to her old life? Or is Dimitri hiding
the perfect surprise, one that could help Claudia finally build her dream life
in Greece?

Fans of Sarah Morgan, Jenny Colgan and My Mamma Mia Summer will love this
gorgeous holiday read, which will sweep you away to the stunning beaches of
Greece.

My thoughts…

The Greek Villa is about Claudia, who receives an inheritance from an old
relative. She decides to spend it on the purchase of a villa in Greece. She
hasn’t actually seen the Villa  but knows it needs doing up and thinks that once
she’s decorated it to her taste, it will be everything she wants it to be.

When I read the book description it sounded so good that it had me hooked from
the start.  Of course when Claudia arrives at the villa, what she finds isn’t
what she was expecting, as the whole place is in need of repair.  I am sure many
of us,  myself included, have no doubt dreamt of buying a Greek villa,
renovating it and escaping to Greece. So I could identify with Claudia.  I
really loved the descriptions of Greece and of course the food.  It brought back
memories of my time spent in Athens and Crete.  The descriptions were so good
that you could escape to your own fantasy life in Greece.  I really enjoyed
reading/watching the villa come together.

The Greek Villa is a fabulous light hearted and fun read. The characters were
engaging and the location made you feel like you were walking through the
cobbles of Greece on a summers evening.  It is a story of hope and second
chances and of never giving up on following your dreams. I loved reading this
book and  and I highly recommend you read it.

Author Bio:

Sue Roberts lives in Lancashire with her long term partner Derek and has had a
lifelong love of writing, encouraged by winning a school writing competition at
the age of 11.

She always assumed that ‘one day’ she would write a book, always having a busy
household and a job, the idea remained firmly on the back burner but never
forgotten.

The inspiration for her first novel came to her on a holiday to a Greek village.
Her daughters had left home and suddenly the time had come to write that book!

BOOKS ON TOUR – A HELPING HAND FOR THE VILLAGE NURSE BY TILLY TENNANT.

6th Jun 2024 / dianasbookjournal / Leave a comment

I am pleased to on the Book Tour for A Helping Hand for the Village Nurse by
Tilly Tennant and I would like to thank Bookouture for the opportunity to read
and review the book

Book Description:

Among the emerald hills of the Lake District sits the village of Thimblebury and
Wordsworth Cottage, its garden bursting with wildflowers. It is the perfect
place for village nurse Ottilie to make her brave new start…

Ottilie Oakcroft never thought she’d live in a place like Wordsworth Cottage.
Nestled close to the river, her new home in the tiny village of Thimblebury
means all her patients are just a stone’s throw from her front door. As they
drop in for cups of tea and cosy chats she ignores all the jobs on her to-do
list and gets to know her new neighbours.

Yet maybe keeping busy is just what Ottilie needs, even if she’s barely had a
minute to unpack her suitcase. Heartbroken after the death of her husband Josh,
as she offers advice and hot soup from her kitchen to the villagers who clearly
need a helping hand, she starts to feel part of a community again.

But disaster strikes when a terrible storm causes the river to burst its banks
and flood Ottilie’s ramshackle cottage. She has sunk every penny she has into
what she’d hoped would be her forever home, and now she’s faced with the
prospect of losing it.

But the villagers have other ideas. They can’t bear to lose Ottilie and they
make a plan to save her house. Leading the effort is handsome Heath, and as he
rolls up his sleeves to get involved in the repairs, he and Ottilie start to
open up to each other. Ottilie tells him about her loss, and he shares the pain
of a marriage that ended in heartbreak for him.

Ottilie hasn’t talked to anyone like this since Josh’s death and while it scares
her, a tiny grain of hope begins to grow. Could Heath be the man to make her
feel life is worth living again – not just for her patients, but for herself?

A completely beautiful and romantic read about healing after heartbreak and
learning that the darkest clouds have a silver lining. Fans of Shari Low,
Jessica Redland and Jo Bartlett will lose their hearts to A Helping Hand for the
Village Nurse.

My thoughts…

A Helping Hand for the Village Nurse follows Otilie Oakcroft who, after losing
her husband, leaves Manchester where she was working as a nurse, and moves to
the small village of Thimblebury in the Lake District where she has bought
Wordsworth Cottage.

This book is a lovely romance set in a beautiful country village with a
community we all wish we had. Otilie  fully immersers herself into the village
and the villagers totally embrace her. When a flood threatens to change all of
Otilie’s plans, the neighbours all come together to ensure they keep their
nurse. I loved the characters in the story,  especially as they are all very
different characters. The writing is beautifully descriptive and made me feel as
though I was there in the village. Otilie thought she would never love again but
then she meets the lovely Heath, who has demons of his own. I really liked the
on/off feelings between Otilie and Heath, and I could understand Otilie’s
anxiety at the thought of being with someone else after losing the love of her
life. I couldn’t help but feel for her & sympathise with her pain,

A Helping Hand for the Village Nurse is a truly emotional read told with
softness and heart. It’s a book about dealing with losing a loved one and
finding yourself again. It is a beautifully written romance, that made me not
only laugh, but cry too. It was a lovely, easy story and a joy to read.  I
really enjoyed reading this book and I highly recommend it.

Author Bio:

From a young age, Tilly Tennant was convinced that she was destined for the
stage.  Once she realised she wasn’t actually very good at anything that would
put her on the stage, she started to write stories instead. There were lots of
terrible ones, like The Pet Rescue Gang (aged eight), which definitely should
not see the light of day ever again. Thankfully, her debut novel, Hopelessly
Devoted to Holden Finn was not one of those, and since it hit the Amazon best
seller lists she hasn’t looked back. Born in Dorset, she currently lives in
Staffordshire with her husband, two daughters, three guitars, four ukuleles, two
violins and a kazoo.

BOOK TOUR – DEATH IN LE JARDIN BY IAN MOORE.

3rd Jun 2024 / dianasbookjournal / Leave a comment

I am pleased to be on the Book Tour for Death In Le Jardin by Ian Moore and I
would like to thank the author and Insta Book Tours for the opportunity to read
a Hardback copy of the book

My thoughts…

Death in Le Jardin follows Richard and Valerie who end up in a village where
things aren’t all they seem. A much loved member of the community has been
arrested for quite a bizarre death that has happened. Richard and Valerie scream
injustice and are on a mission to prove they have the wrong person.. time for
the duo to prove her innocence and this is where things start to get messy as
the bodies start piling up.

I will admit that this is the first book I’ve read in this series but I really
enjoyed it.  Richard and Valerie are such a power couple, both are investigative
but clumsy. Richard is very laid back and the firecracker that is Valerie make
them a force to be reckoned with. The characters are fun and likeable as they
try to absolve Richard’s housekeeper from a murder charge in a small town more
worried about its flowers than its citizens.  This book is well-written, as well
as thoroughly hilarious. The author’s ability to set an authentic French feeling
in his books makes it cosy and intriguing, so much so that it might inspire you
to want to visit France.

Death In Le Jardin is definitely a pleasurable read with lots of laughs and
characters you want to see more of.  My interest was kept throughout and  I
loved every moment of immersing myself in it. The conclusion to the book does
catch you by surprise, as it is a rather late reveal.  If you’re a fan of cosy
older MC detective series, this is definitely one for you.
