We can’t achieve our vision of a safe and healthy world of work without their help, knowledge and expertise. We offer many volunteering opportunities so you can build your skills and connect with fellow professionals. Any member can get involved, with options to suit all skill and experience levels, and fit varying levels of commitment in terms of time and term of office. HOW TO GET INVOLVED There are lots of ways to get involved, depending on your interests, experience and how much time you want to give. We’ll update this page as and when specific opportunities arise, but you can explore some of the ways you can volunteer below. Branches BRANCHES We have over 50 branches, each run by a committee of volunteers. They engage with IOSH members, recruit new members and organise local activities to support our work. Use our online form to register your interest and get involved with your local branch, district or section committee. Groups GROUPS We have 18 industry-specific groups, each driven by a committee of volunteers. They bring together members with a shared interest or specialist area to network, campaign and swap ideas. Future leaders community steering group FUTURE LEADERS COMMUNITY STEERING GROUP The steering group organises events and resources to support our future leaders community of new and aspiring OSH professionals. Council COUNCIL Our representative body, providing advice and guidance on strategic, professional and policy issues. Council represents members’ views to the Board of Trustees and nominates members of our Presidential team. Mentoring MENTORING Our mentoring scheme encourages OSH professionals to support those with less or different experience to progress their expertise and career, while developing their own leadership and communication skills. * You can apply to be a mentor, mentee or both, at any time. Board of Trustees BOARD OF TRUSTEES Trustees are responsible for managing IOSH’s affairs and legally accountable for all our activities. Trustees need to have experience working as a senior manager at a strategic level. As a trustee, you can contribute to IOSH’s development and our vision for a safer and healthier world of work. Trustees can also serve on specific board committees: * audit and risk * finance and investment * policy and standards * performance and development * people and remuneration * awarding organisation. Trustees are appointed for a two- to three-year term and can serve for up to six years consecutively. We advertise vacancies as and when they arise. Find out more about our trustees. Benevolent fund trustees BENEVOLENT FUND TRUSTEES Benevolent fund trustees are responsible for the fund’s governance and ensuring it meets its obligations as a charity. * Learn more about our benevolent fund. Presidential team PRESIDENTIAL TEAM Works closely with IOSH in an ambassadorial role, supporting delivery of key strategic messages to our members and the wider OSH profession. And you definitely won’t want to miss the post-event drinks and canapés where you can meet and mingle with a range of IOSH volunteers.
