AMAZON REPORTEDLY DEVELOPING DRIVER EYEGLASSES TO SPEED UP PARCEL DELIVERIES

Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) is developing smart eyeglasses for its delivery
drivers to speed up the final stage of an order’s delivery, according to a
Reuters report.

Five people with knowledge of the matter told the publication that the glasses
aim to guide drivers around and within buildings by providing turn-by-turn
navigation on a small embedded screen.

By some estimates, the “last mile” of a delivery accounts for half the cost of
the product’s trip as navigating neighbourhoods is more costly and complicated.

By providing left or right directions or avoiding obstacles such as gates or
dogs, Amazon’s drivers could shave seconds off each delivery which adds up as it
delivers millions of parcels per day.

The glasses would also allow drivers to no longer need to use handled Global
Positioning System devices, meaning they can carry more packages.

The sources told Reuters the project may be cancelled or delayed indefinitely if
they do not work as intended or for financial or other reasons. They may take
years to perfect, they added.

When asked about the project, an Amazon spokesperson said: “We are continuously
innovating to create an even safer and better delivery experience for drivers.
We otherwise don’t comment on our product roadmap.”
