In this course, the various aspects of planning, preparation, and best practices for continuous improvement in student and teacher success are explored. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- June 1, 2021 to June 1, 2023 T&L 2900: VIR: FOUNDATIONS FOR TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION What now? So what? So often teachers will attend professional development sessions or workshops and hear about wonderfully innovative ideas for integrating technology into their classroom units, lessons, and/or tasks. However, after leaving these types of events, teachers come away feeling like they have the will and the drive to want to take on this challenge in their own classrooms but with no idea where to start. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- June 1, 2021 to June 1, 2023 T&L 2900: VIR: INFORMATION LITERACY FOR INSTRUCTORS We'll take a close look at the doctrine of fair use, especially as it applies in an educational setting. We'll also explore how to determine if a web resource is credible, how to cross-check sources for accuracy, differentiate between fact and opinion, and determine whether a source is timely, objective, and may have a conflict of interest. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- June 1, 2021 to June 1, 2023 T&L 2900: VIR: PARENT AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH/INVOLVEMENT Creating partnerships with the home, community organizations, and businesses, as well as setting up collaborative structures both within and outside the school, can positively impact instruction and learning. This pathway will explain the importance of and define strategies in order to foster these partnerships, and effective communication and implementation structures to ensure that your planning goes beyond the brainstorming phase. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- June 1, 2021 to June 1, 2023 T&L 2900: VIR: PERSPECTIVES ON BULLYING Bullying is an insidious problem in our schools and society. This course addresses both in-person bullying and cyberbullying as it provides recommendations for ways to identify people who are being bullied and those who are the perpetrators of these harmful behaviors. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- June 1, 2021 to June 1, 2023 T&L 2900: VIR: PLANNING AND INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is about removing barriers for ALL students in order to give them the best opportunity to be successful learners. In this overview of UDL, we will look at optimizing the learner's motivation to learn, options for the representation of new material and options for students to express what they have learned. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- June 1, 2021 to June 1, 2023 T&L 2900: VIR: PROFESSIONAL GROWTH TO IMPROVE INSTRUCTION This course takes a look at professional growth in education. We look at the steps necessary for instructional improvement in the classroom, technology resources to improve instruction, effective research in the area of professional growth, reflective practices, and use of social media as a Professional Learning Network. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- June 1, 2021 to June 1, 2023 T&L 2900: VIR: READING ESSENTIALS This course examines the complexity of reading instruction, focusing on the urgent need for proficient literacy skills among students; the core beliefs which serve as the foundation of reading instruction; and the importance of content area literacy, word study, and the "Five Big Ideas" in reading instruction: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- June 1, 2021 to June 1, 2023 T&L 2900: VIR: RESEARCH INSIGHTS TO SOME AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDENT EXPERIENCES This course calls for educators to rethink the dominant culture and values of our educational system and the ways in which we support African American students. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- June 1, 2021 to June 1, 2023 T&L 2900: VIR: SHAPING INSTRUCTION FOR INDIVIDUAL NEEDS This course describes differentiation and assessment practices and the powerful impact they can have on student achievement including fully supporting the academic achievement of English Learners (ELLs), and the need to learn grade-level, discipline-specific content while they are building English proficiency. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- June 1, 2021 to June 1, 2023 T&L 2900: VIR: SPECIAL EDUCATION BASICS Understanding learning disabilities and providing accommodations for students is an integral part of education. These modules focus on the basics of special education, with an emphasis on explaining all the jargon and acronyms that make up the special education world. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- June 1, 2021 to June 1, 2023 T&L 2900: VIR: STRATEGIC FOUNDATIONS FOR REFLECTIVE SCHOOLS This course discusses the structure, creation, and maintenance of an effective Professional Learning Community, emphasizing the importance of communication and consensus in the establishment of the school-wide mission, vision, values, and curriculum. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- June 1, 2021 to June 1, 2023 T&L 2900: VIR: STRATEGIES FOR MANAGING CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT In this course, you'll learn a variety of behavior management philosophies and the best strategies for effectively improving behavior in the classroom with a positive approach.
