FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT HOMES IN OAK PARK, IL

I love the Prairie style with its connectivity to nature and the environment.
I’m not always a fan of the straight, clean lines that later…...

Interested in finding historical places to visit but aren’t sure where to start?
You’ve come to the right place!

If you’re a new visitor, there’s a handy guide to show HOW TO USE THE SITE.

Perhaps you have a location in mind; you might want to start by selecting WHERE
you want to go.

Otherwise, if you have a certain time period in mind, you might want to start by
selecting WHEN you want to go:

Using This Site
WHERE to go?
WHEN to go?

CAN'T DECIDE "WHEN" TO GO? TRY THESE PERIODS:

LOOKING FOR PREHISTORIC PLACES TO VISIT?

Prehistoric: up to 410 AD

Did you know there are stone-age burial chambers in Ireland older than the
pyramids of Egypt? Likewise, how about exploring Bronze Age copper mines in
Wales? It’s amazing to see what people were able to accomplish with the tools of
the age and how much effort went into building a structure that would have taken
multiple lifetimes and generations to complete at that time!

MAYBE YOU'RE THINKING MORE MEDIEVAL...

Medieval: 410 - 1485

Enter the era of giant stone castles, Viking raids and Empire building in your
backyard. The massive stone keeps of a castle are impressive and intimidating
even today – and we live in a world with skyscrapers! My favorite example, the
Tower of London, is as beautiful as it is terrifying; take a moment during your
visit to appreciate that you are free to leave whenever you please!

THERE ARE GREAT EARLY MODERN PLACES TO VISIT TOO!

Early Mod: 1485 - 1750

If gilt and opulence is your jam, you can easily spend a day exploring the
palace of Versailles just outside of Paris, France. Speaking of exploration,
this is also the period of Christopher Columbus, Ferdinand Magellan and other
explorers setting out in the age of conquest. History isn’t always kind.

I KNOW - YOU'RE LOOKING FOR MODERN HISTORY!

Modern: 1750 - Present

These trips can take you through multiple Revolutions and not one, but two World
Wars, but modern history has also been a time of tremendous industrialization
and technological advancement. For instance, new towns and cities sprang up all
across America and that plucky American optimism and stubborn independence took
root. I’m pretty sure that’s how my Mom would describe me too: plucky optimism
and stubborn independence.
