Dr. Peter Scott-Morgan
Scientist
Scott-Morgan Foundation
Dr. Peter Scott-Morgan

DR PETER SCOTT-MORGAN is an English-American scientist who fervently believes
that every one of us deserves the chance to live our dreams. He is a passionate
champion of the idea that the fundamental birthright of being human is to THRIVE
– whatever we are, whatever our background, whatever our circumstances, whatever
our ambitions. Peter and his husband have formed a charitable Foundation that
has already enrolled numerous world experts and cutting-edge organisations, all
researching together how to apply cutting-edge Hi-Tech to THRIVE with Extreme
Disability and, in the process, change what it means to be human. He is the
subject of a primetime Channel-4 documentary chronicling his journey to becoming
the world’s first full Cyborg, as well as a book and associated podcasts. Early
in his career, Peter translated his expertise in complex-system dynamics into
pioneering techniques to decode the hidden inner-workings of society so as to
predict and selectively rewrite strands of the future. He is the foremost
authority on the Unwritten Rules that organizations, social groups, cultures,
and global systems follow that dictate how they will evolve. He has been granted
unparalleled confidential access across North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, and
Latin America to analyse the secret reality of institutions, government
organizations, and corporations, including many of the major players in banking,
healthcare, transport, energy, chemicals, IT, telecoms, retail, manufacturing,
entertainment, and media. He has uncovered innumerable serious systemic threats,
as well as advised leaders around the world how best to respond to them. Having
spent roughly equal periods of his career living in the USA and UK, he currently
lives in Torquay, England, with his husband Francis. They have been a couple
since 1979. On 21st December 2005, they were granted the first ceremony on the
first day Civil Partnerships became legal. In 2009, this was retrospectively
recognized as having been a full Marriage. In 2017, Peter was diagnosed with
Motor Neurone Disease (MND, also called ALS or Lou Gehrig’s) and given two years
to live. Far from this being a setback, he views it as an unrepeatable
opportunity to conduct breakthrough research. Based on his unique insight into
how Hi-Tech will evolve, and having now analysed the Unwritten Rules of clinical
care for MND, he plans not just to survive – but THRIVE. For decades. He is
adamant that the lessons learned must help everybody with Extreme Disability,
even when caused simply by ‘old age’. To him, this research is, quite literally,
the experiment of his life.

As business needs change so does the demands on the infrastructure to support
it. The shift of data creation and analysis to the edge is driving the need to

LIFECYCLE MANAGEMENT SOLUTIONS

IT'S CIRCULAR ECONOMY & MAKING SUSTAINABILITY TANGIBLE

 * Claudia Contreras, Executive Director, Sustainability Services, International
   IDG Services, SSG, Lenovo
 * Dale Aultman, VP & GM, ISG Services, Lenovo

As IT resources become harder to find and the environmental damage worsens as a
result of industrial practices, it’s more critical than ever that companies
around the world embrace a circular economy (where they can leverage existing
resources and put them back into the supply chain instead of using them once and
throwing them away). Over the last few years, thanks to new technological
solutions and resources, opportunities that enable a circular economy have
surfaced in ways like never before. Companies are reevaluating product design,
materials and even their overall supply chain in order to decrease the negative
impacts they may have had on the environment. At Lenovo, we believe that smarter
technology can solve problems, create opportunities and transform the way we all
live, learn, work and heal. Lenovo’s commitment to providing Smarter Technology
for All extends to our transition from a linear to circular economy through
Smarter Circular Design, Smarter Circular Use, and Smarter Circular Return. This
latter philosophy will be the focus of this session. In it, Claudia Contreras
who heads IDG’s Sustainability Services will lead a discussion with procurement
and IT sustainability leaders from Siemens on how they have incorporated a
Smarter Circular Return process to capture resources and value across the PC
lifecycle.

MANAGING CHANGE AND TRANSFORMING IT THROUGH DAAS

 * Rob Makin, Executive Director, Worldwide Device as a Service (DaaS), SSG
   Lenovo
 * Linn Huang, Research VP, Devices & Displays, Lenovo

Organizations have been navigating the uncertain waters of the pandemic for
nearly two years now and with that has come great change. The sudden pivot to
remote work illuminated gaps in many companies’ outdated IT infrastructures that
were not capable of driving productivity, efficiency, security, or a positive
user experience in the new reality. In response, many accelerated their digital
transformations by adopting new technology solutions through the
Device-as-a-service (DaaS) IT model. However, in recent months, as companies
have been weighing the decision on whether, when and how to return to the
office, their IT departments have had to transition out of the reaction phase
and proactively plan for the future. As a result, the perception of the DaaS IT
model has expanded beyond a means for hardware procurement. Instead it is
increasingly viewed as a vehicle for organizational change, capable of helping
companies achieve their desired business outcomes. In this session, Rob Makin,
Lenovo’s Executive Director of Worldwide DaaS, is joined by IDC’s Linn Huang to
discuss the challenges that companies are facing in the wake of the great
migration to remote and hybrid work. Join them as they explore findings from a
recent IDC study on how IT departments plan to manage work from anywhere by
leveraging outsourced services. They will also address some of the biggest
inhibitors to transitioning to a DaaS model and reveal the outcomes businesses
are having as they make the switch.

A NEW DISRUPTIVE APPROACH TO TECHNOLOGY SOLUTIONS

 * John Gordon, President, Industry Solutions, SSG, Lenovo
 * Charles Ferland, VP & GM, Edge Computing & Communication Service Providers
   (Telco), Lenovo

More than ever, enterprises need a simpler way to buy, deploy and manage
solutions to keep up with the speed of transformation and innovation required to
drive their business forward and remain competitive. Join this thought
leadership session where John Gordon, President Industry Solution at Lenovo,
will share his perspective, based on customer engagements around the world, on
how you can take a much more flexible, reliable and economical approach to
consume technology solutions, and the new kind of solution partners you should
consider to help address your industry-specific and horizontal needs.

FROM INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY TO INTELLIGENT TRANSFORMATION

 * Arthur Hu, SVP & CIO, Lenovo
 * Dr. Jens Amail, Global Executive Vice President, COO and Head of Cloud, SAP

Today, we’ve come to the era of digital transformation. The role of IT
organization needs to be extended to two levels. One is to keep the business
running, the other one is to support on the company’s business transformation.
But how? In one aspect, IT is working closely with GMs/CTOs of BGs and functions
to collect all the technologies, products and solutions across the company and
establish a technology portfolio for Lenovo. Then identify the ones from this
portfolio with Lenovo’s unique advantage and adopt them internally. This
internal adoption will help provide ideas and feedback to improve our technology
and solutions. In another aspect, once these technologies, products and
solutions are successfully implemented, incubated, and refined internally, the
IT team can productize them and help business teams offer Lenovo’s unique
solutions to our customers. Our internal use case can be leveraged as lighthouse
cases to help win more partners and customers. We’re confident that, with the
Lenovo Powers Lenovo strategic initiative, Lenovo IT will not only accelerate
digital transformation, but also enable industry leading solutions for our
customers, and drive our service-led transformation to the next level. Join
Arther Hu, SVP, Chief information officer at Lenovo transform IT organization
for the future, to find out more.
