Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. WHO WE ARE THE BEGINNINGS George Adamson, the “Lion Man” of Africa, was one of the founding fathers of wildlife conservation. He was best known through the book and film Born Free, the story of Elsa, the orphaned lioness raised and released into the wild by Adamson and his wife, Joy. In 1970 he moved to Kora in northern Kenya where he was joined by his brother Terence Adamson and by Tony Fitzjohn as his right-hand man to continue the rehabilitation of captive or orphaned big cats for eventual reintroduction to the wild and to develop the infrastructure and security of Kora (then a national reserve) to national park status which was awarded in 1989. WHO WE ARE The objectives of The George Adamson & Tony Fitzjohn Wildlife Trusts are to partner with local wildlife authorities to restore degraded wildlife areas, enhance wildlife conservation, reverse the decline of endangered species and invest in adjacent communities linking benefits from conservation actions. The Trust in Kenya is currently in partnership with the Kenya Wildlife Service to apply these actions in Kora National Park. The Trusts represent a spirit of dynamic “hands on” conservation, concentrating limited resources to the best possible effect. Africa is now the beneficiary of many excellent conservation programmes. However, the Kora Project has a unique aspect. It is the regeneration of Kora National Park, in partnership with Kenya Wildlife Service, including the rehabilitation its wildlife and endangered species. This project, together with a concentrated outreach and education programme, does not simply attempt to hold the line on conservation. It is a great endeavour to re-establish a complete ecosystem positively reversing the damage which has been done. We now possess the experience from our highly successful, thirty year programme in Tanzania. This internationally renowned project involved the transformation of the vast Mkomazi Game Reserve into a thriving National Park. It has enabled us to master the techniques of revival and renewal in order that an ecosystem becomes self-sustaining. In Kora today we are putting that experience to the best use. The Trusts are proud of their contribution to this vital science and the education it provides. To this end, the Trusts have worked closely with the Royal Geographical Society on their major expeditions to Kora National Park and Mkomazi National Park. We believe that the Kora Project is one of the most exciting and valuable endeavours in African conservation today. Please join us.
